A chaotic way to (not) learn math
Algebra 1/2 is deeply flawed in its approach to learning. I don't recommend it for anyone. While it claims to take an "incremental" approach, it doesn't introduce and build on new concepts in an orderly fashion, as you might expect, given the title. Instead, it takes a "shotgun" approach, with the student getting hit with new BB-sized factoids almost at random.
And you thought you hated math before...

Simply The Best Math Book Ever Written
As my 11 year old son begins his second semester of Calculus at our local college, he tends to take exception with parents that look down on the Saxon series of math books, with them often calling the books "boring" or "repetitive", as if math is intended to be loaded with excitement from day 1.Getting good at something, whether it's cutting lawns or learning pre-algebra, take practice.I just feel so bad for the kids with these parents, as the kids will never amount to anything, given that environment.Simply put, the Saxon series of books, if completed per their instructions (i.e., doing every problem), assures that your kid will NEVER have trouble in math.

anatomy coloring book
I got this book so fast!!! It was in phenomenal shape and was everything I was looking for!!

Statistics for Dummies is the bomb
I am very impressed with the Statistics for Dummies book. It is well written and really helped me grasp a basic understanding of statistics. The formulas that the author has provided are very helpful. The author really knows her stuff and has written a book that can help everyone understand the complex world of statistics.

Good intro - clear but too repetitive
Definitely does the job it sets out to do but could have done it without so much repetition hence only gets 3 stars.

Not the college refresher I'd hoped for
This book covers material that would be found in the early to mid-level phases of a college Statistics course. I was hoping for a deeper refresher, short of re-reading my college texts and notes, and this wasn't the place to find it.

Sure it's good, and a good price by the pund too!
A pretty good overview and a lot of in-depth material on Multivariate data analysis.Not quite a bed time read though.
Good for a second stats course & reference
We used this book for our Stats 2 course in grad school, and although our professor was good enough to eclipse Hair, et al. (he had written his own Stats text), I am most pleased at how much mileage I have drawn from Hair, et al. in the years since I took the course.In my subsequent career, reviewers have often sent me back to Hair, et al. when they have questions about something I'm doing with a data analysis, so it has become an invaluable reference for that reason alone.
simple but great!!
I used this book as a reference on the topics while I was working on a research project at the university. Because the book does not use complex mathematics to explain the multivariate statistics, it is easy for social sciences students to understand. Each chapter starts with an overview, step-by step procedures and ends with an example from the data set that is used throughout the book.

The one to have
If you want one book on Categorical Data analysis, this is the one.But there are others that are easier to read, if your math is not great (including the same author's book with an almost identical title)

Good reading, but how do I analyze my data?
In the theoretical sense, this book provides a very thorough overview of categorical data analysis.However, this book should not be used as a reference for the scientist needing to do the occasional number crunching of categorical data.The examples are vague and the tests are not well explained.If you want to derive the tests, this book is for you.If you're not a statistician at heart and just want the answer, I suggest looking at Conover's "Practical Nonparametric Statistics" for a good explanation of which tests to use and how to use them.

A classic, made even better
This is a very demanding, thorough, and clear description of just about everything anyone could want to know on the subject.The second edition is considerably more rigorous than the first.Agresti stresses that logistic models are one kind of generalized linear model.This offers solid connections to many other models, but places corresponding demands on the reader.In particular, Chapter 4 is difficult going, but might be skipped or skimmed on first reading.Read more

A stunning update of a classic
When I went to update this with my handwritten notes made on the second edition I found that the material had already been added.Much improved over the older edition with more information on alternate species, constituents, pao zhi and modern uses.It still has the annoying multiple indexes but at least they are thumb indexed. Well worth the investment for owners of earlier editions who actively use herbal medicine.

Important, but flawed?
My copy of this book is full of printing errors, including chapter summaries that are incomplete and index page numbers that are as many as two pages off.I expect much more from Eastland Press.

The Chinese medicinal products bible - required reading
At last, Bensky et al. third edition is finally out and what a vast source of knowledge it is. For anyone using Chinese medicinal products, this really is your bible. Massively expanded from the 2nd edition, there are hundreds more many medicinal products included.

A first rate book
This is a superb book, and Dr. Bourne shows extreme insight, preception, and understanding in helping the anxious individual in today's stressful world. He seems to know me better than I know myself! I highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered with anxiety, panic, phobias, post-traumatic stress symptoms, and shyness. It will help you to get on with your life! His book will not be surpassed!
Relief from stress and all kinds of anxiety
An excellent handbook, better than therapy because you know the quality of help you're getting, IMHO. You don't have to have full blown phobias to be helped by this, so don't be shy about delving in and relieving yourself from negative self talk, chronic stress, or any kind of avoidance.

Wonderful Help
This book provides comprehensive information and resources for someone suffering from an anxiety disorder or those workling with people who suffer from these horrible condition.I personally found great help in this book for myself and those I worked with. If you cant find apprpriate help in this book you havent looked hard enough.One thing to remember if you are suffering from any anxiety disorder, there is help and you dont have to continue to suffer for the rest of your life.I suffered from PTSD, generalized anxiety, extreme worry, panic attacks , among many other things.With the proper help Im able to live a peaceful life with little anxiety and worry.Also, recommned Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie. Not Too Bad
I have a basic statistics background before I read this book. For me, the book is useful for my basic quantitative research. Last few chapters apply the statistics rules in earlier chapters to the real business environment, which I think it's really practical and interesting. The most I like in this book is the practice questions at the end of each chapter, which apply to everyone's daily life. However, first four chapters cover too many unnecessary topics.

This book requires outside help!
This book tends to jump off topic (most aren't explained well). For example, they talk about one thing but the exercises are a bit different than the chapter's topic. Most of the information isn't fully explained. If you are in a class where the instructor assigns the exercise questions for homework, you are screwed. You may not know what to do unless you seek outside help (study guide, tutor etc.) or read beyond the chapter.

A very interesting book... for those who understand statistics
The book has a lot of examples and is a must have for those majoring in Finance. Some Universities use this for Intro to Statistics and this book is very didactic. The way it's written out in a form that takes you a another level of reading which makes you feel you're in a rainbow... a reading rainbow... Anway... better outcomes...less burnout!
As a relatively new therapist in a community mental health setting I noticed I kept getting clients that were diagnosed with BPD.No one else seemed to want them and as the new therapist I got "stuck" with them.After many months of frustration and questioning whether or not I made the right career choice, I stumbled across DBT.
Innovative protocol
Marsha Linehan's treatment approach to Borderline Personality Disorder is innovative and refreshing.DBT does work!This book explains BPD, it's history, and the development and theory behind several practices and how Linehan, through her own practical experience, came to treat BPD with her effective approach.The text is very clinical, but readable.It is a great, in-depth compliment to the skills manual by Linehan.A must for any clinician who has thrown up his/her arms in frustration while working with a Borderline client!

"The" book on DBT therapy, dense but well written...
CBT of Borderline Personality Disorder is a must have clinical book. Dense and chock full of therapeutic interventions, this book is pivotal for anyone working extensively with persons with BPD or anyone who has chronic suicidal thoughts, or other maladaptive and destructive coping skills. An excellent and understandable introduction to chemistry
While most of the one year chemistry texts cover more or less the same principles, the order varies, the illustrations are similar, but they vary most in the way they explain the material.It is in the vocabulary they use and develop that helps the student develop the intuitions, understanding, and skills the authors are after.This is a very well written text that is useful for non-chemistry majors as well as science students needing an introductory course in chemistry.
solid text, no overall change from previous edition
I wrote the review below for the previous edition (9), and having seen the tenth edition, most of my subjects of complaints and praises pretty much remain the same.
Great for IB students
The textbook delivers great diagrams, good for virtual learners. Fancy words are rarely used. It also corresponds well with the IB Chemistry syllabus. If you are thinking about ordering Chemistry textbook, and if you are an international student who are not so strong at English, this textbook is good to go.

Fine book, for whatever it matters
The book is decent. To be honest though, reviewing textbooks is kind of funny. Does it matter what I say? I suppose if you're ordering this book because you honestly just have a burning desire to learn about essential cell biology, well... the more power to you. You'll learn it just fine from this book. If you're just buying the book because it's the required text for your college class (like I expect), well yeah, doesn't really matter what I say, does it?

Essentials grounded!!
I feel this is a very good textbook for molecular biology rookies as well as for pros wanting to revive their concepts ... Molecular Biology of the Cell could serve as an excellent companion book or rather reference book for this textbook ... the cd provided along with theEssential Cell Biology book is a great tool to understand the way things work ... in short, it is a must book for mol bio students to know what they are doing and to do things better:) It could also serve as a great book for biomedical engineers to grasp more of biology and engineer the concepts better. The book is definitely more simplified (kinda an abridged version) and easier to understand than "Molecular Biology of the Cell". Although, the size of the latter makes it look more formidable for beginners, I must add it is indeed a great reference book for researchers!

Great intro book!
This book is for those wanting an easy reading introduction.Its very informative, well put together and easy to follow with adequate graphics.(I hated the questions at the end of each chapter though, ok lets face it they were easy you just had to really think about them).
HARD TO FOLLOW
I just finished my biology class with this text book.Over all I was very disappointed in this book.I read each chapter that was assigned to us by the professor and worked my study guides but still came out of the each chapter more confused.With the jargon they put in this text book it doesn't do the student any favors in the layouts you will need to spend time to investigate some of the information on your own to obtain a better understanding of BIOLOGY.

An easy-to-read book that still avoids over-simplification

Not Very Helpful
If you are looking for an encyclopedia of all things pre-calculus, then this is your book. Just don't expect it to teach you much if you don't already know the material. There are plenty of practice problems, but the actual "teaching" sections don't really help the average student like me. Some of this is offset by the DVD's included in the course pack, but not enough so to justify the $200.00 the book and course pack cost at the university bookstore. You would probably best be served by using a different book like Precalculus for Dummies or the Complete Idiots Guide to Precalculus.

Never read it, but...
I'll admit, I have never looked at this book, but Michael Sullivan's other Trigonometry book is very bad. No specific exampels, vauge explanations. If this book is anything like his old one, dont get it!!!

outstanding
I used Giancoli as my primary text in high school, and found it to be a superb text. I think those complaining of a lack of worked problems are missing the entire point of this text and the essence of studying physics. This book is about understanding physics principles and the equations you use to solve physics problems. You will find that with this understanding (certainly provided by this excellent text), the need for mindless ploughing through physics problems is lost. You will be able to solve physics problems on the basis of your conceptual understanding of the problems. So many students rely on rote learning and repetition by doing hundreds of questions. Sure, you might be able to attack similar problems for the next week or so, but as soon as you stop practicing, the skill is lost. True mastery of physics comes from appreciation of principles, not mere recognition of patterns in problems...this text will help you achieve such an appreciation.
A pretty good intro book for calculus based physics
I once taught a calculus based physics coursed using this text.I found as good as the other standard texts: Both the book by Serway and the book by Halliday and Resnick.The ideas are presented clearly, without too many words, and the examples are well picked. I suspect, as happened to me, that you will appreciate the calculus better after getting past a calculus based physics course. Despite containing a few errors, a good return on your investment relative to the cost of this text, is the supplementary Schaum's outline: Physics for Engineers and Science. Each chapter of this Schaum's reviews things concisely, and is filled with tons of worked out sample problems. Try hard to work out these problem sets first, before looking at the solutions. Your grades will reflect YOUR efforts.
Clear and nice physics book for intro students
I know physics is hard for all of us, but this book is very clear in explaining physics.It does not involve in calculus, so usually it is better for most students who never took physics.So if you did not take physics class before, I highly recommend this book because it does not use pompous or intricate words that most science textbook writers do.Not only is it an easy reading, but also it has awesome questions and problems that make you think and that check whether you know really physics.

not realy helpful
It is okay, if your teacher is terrible this will help A LITTLE. Honestly, this book tries so hard to make calculus interesting that it ends up making it worse. The examples are useless. The explanation of limits is so confusion. It barely spent 2 pages on continuity. I don't recommend it, its not "user friendly". I am going to buy another book because this one failed to meet my satisfaction.
Nicely done
...but I strongly advise reviewing your trig first. This book has one of the better sections on implicit differentiation and for that alone, it's worth buying.

Bone up on your algebra/geometry/trig first...
For a geezer like me who's been away from math an infinity+ (pun intended), I'd recommend checking out the prereq Dummies book first.But, once you do, Calculus For Dummies and the accompanying workbook are a fun adventure thanks to the author's merciful and witty style.Just don't leave these two volumes lying on your coffee table unless you wish to impress company with your nerdiness ! ... Very Detailed
This is a very detailed textbook. If you want to learn about Geology in great detail this is the book for you. I recently learned that a new version will be coming out soon. I know this because my university will not buy the book back since the new edition will replace this edition next semester.
