This is an excellent read for any acupuncture student, practitioner or enthusiast!Deadman's language is poetry. The points come alive when reading this text!
5-0 out of 5 stars Peter Deadman's A Manual of Acupuncture
Not possible to find a better English language reference source than this book. I have used the book in hard copy but prefer it on CD. Quick to find items using CD and a notebook and CD weigh less that the actual manual. The pronunciations that come with the book on CD seem accurate, depending on the area from whence your Chinese comes. Good background data for all point locations and rationale for their use.

    3-0 out of 5 stars I'm on day 9...
And I'm not impressed.Never again! This has been torture.I'm more energetic when I wake up in the morning, but that's about the only positive.I admit I made some modifications: used reconstituted, bottled lemon juice, for two days I had just water, and one day apple cider.I'm going to keep going until day 10 just for the sense of accomplishment.Anyway, I've been trying to clear up my allergies and skin problems, and so far this has not seemed much help.I don't know, maybe it has helped but I don't realize it.Next I'm going to try using oxy-powder to cleanse the gunk from the colon in a simple, non-torturous way (just have to take some pills) and also do a series of gallbladder/liver flushes. My point is, the Master Cleanser is just one part of detox-ing: it is a kidney flush, but one would be well-advised to do a liver-gallbladder flush right afterwards. This book has helped many people, I'm sure, but so far my experience has told me that it's not for me.I'd only do this again as a last resort. Here are some helpful sites: curezone and [...].That's just my opinion. To all the people out there struggling with health problems, good luck, and don't give up, and don't let the conventional medical industry fool you into assuming there is no cure for whatever you have, and don't let irrational skeptics sway you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good program
I did alot of research on this clense before i started and made a commitment to try it.I sort of eased into the diet by having 1 small meal a day consisting of organic spinach salad. On say 2 of the wean i experienced a terrible headache but i honestly believe that after 20 years of drinking pepsi with everything- this was simply caffeine withdrawl. Those who make it sound easy will fool you into failing. The lemonade will give you what you need, but after a lifetime of eating you will definately crave food.It will get easier but never easy. You have to commit yourself.I compare this to quitting smoking which is my next task.
4-0 out of 5 stars How often do you take food for granted?
I once heard on a health program that most of us have 'stuff' in us (in our intestines) that's at least two months old!Wouldn't that be great to remove all of that gunk residing in your intestines and toxins in other parts of your body? The Master Cleanse was a great way to do it for me.It was a bit challenging because I *love* food, and just not eating was such a foreign concept. But the drink is pretty tasty and I felt all of its cleansing effects. It's easy to tell that this book was written half a century ago, though the content is easy to digest and intriguing. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that it tries to convince the reader to stay away from animal and animal-derived foods once the cleanse is done, as if that's the only way to diet for life.He threw in a bunch of recipies for the blandest-sounding food, so only two-thirds of the book was useful to me.The main part of it, The Lemonade Diet, is the heart of the book and it's worth a whole lot more than $6.50. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A stunning update of a classic
When I went to update this with my handwritten notes made on the second edition I found that the material had already been added.Much improved over the older edition with more information on alternate species, constituents, pao zhi and modern uses.It still has the annoying multiple indexes but at least they are thumb indexed. Well worth the investment for owners of earlier editions who actively use herbal medicine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Important, but flawed?
My copy of this book is full of printing errors, including chapter summaries that are incomplete and index page numbers that are as many as two pages off.I expect much more from Eastland Press.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Chinese medicinal products bible - required reading
At last, Bensky et al. third edition is finally out and what a vast source of knowledge it is. For anyone using Chinese medicinal products, this really is your bible. Massively expanded from the 2nd edition, there are hundreds more many medicinal products included.

2-0 out of 5 stars A product of modern TCM
This text is both well-written and comprehensive in its detail of modern TCM, and also sorely lacking in the nuance and subtlety that is the heart of Chinese medicine from which modern TCM is derived. It is a useful text with which to prepare for board exams, but of very limited benefit in its contribution to a sensitive exploration of the classical approaches to health and illness that Chinese medicine offers. If this book is optional for you, I would encourage you to go hear Mr. MacIocia speak in person, and then decide if he is the scholar whose text you want at this price.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Highly Recommed This Book
I found this book to be very beneficial to me in my studies to become an acupuncturist and oriental medcine practioner. Giovanni MacIocias' book has long been considered THE standard text book for anyone involved in the modality of Oriental Theory and Medicine.
5-0 out of 5 stars Clarity and insight that is all too rare inan unusual and challengingtopic.
The sheer depth and breadth of the clarity and insight about Traditional Chinese Medicine that comes through this book with such ease for a reader is a wonder.Strong praise, yes; but all too often these subjects are obscure...and even good books usually only *start* to give people new to the subject insight as well as good, foundational knowledge.

Louise is the first lady of the healing arts and hers was one of the first book I ever saw on the subject. It totally changed the way I thought about healing and led to my writing my own book, some 12 years later.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!
This book was one of my first experiences with working with The Law of Attraction and the Power of Positivity.Though I first read it over ten years ago, I still use it and recommend it to clients regularly.I also recommend any of Louise's beautiful affirmation card decks... they are attractive reminders to keep thoughts high!
5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I need...
I have never been big on self-help books; many of them are too stuffy, or technical, or don't really relate to what I'm going through."You Can Heal Your Life" is different. It is easy to read, and well-written, and helps you see/realize/re-affirm that you are the master of your destiny, that only you can change your life, that you are loveable and perfect as you are - and best of all, the process is not "hard" - you just have to be willing to do the mental work. The book gives practical advise, it's non-judgemental, and it's real and true.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chinese Herbal Medicine: Formulas and Strategies
As a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine I can attest to the value of this book's information. It is a fantastic reference book and provides practitioners with detailed formulae descriptions, analysis of formulae and is invaluable to any Chinese medicine practitioner.
    4-0 out of 5 stars Bensky's Formuales & Strategies
This is a classical book about Herbal Formulaes. I have read it several times and consult it often. I believe Strategy refers to how an herbologist will be able to use the book to add or modify ingridient and dosage. Unlike the review I wrote for "Material Medica", I find this is a useful book with much needed information to come up with a prescription. Needless to say the translation of this book is choppy in many places. The authors can keep the terms more to the point. These flowerly terms used is a minus.
5-0 out of 5 stars No contenders

3-0 out of 5 stars Agree, But Disagree
I agree with Reiss that if we take hormones at all, they should be natural hormones, and unfortunately, so many women suffer from menopausal symptoms that hormonal replacement seems to the the only answer or relief. I suffered from day and night hot flashes, skin conditions, and a lousy mood as I entered menopause.I actually went to a western medical doctor, something I totally disagree with. They wanted to put me on premarin, and/or anything else I would take to fatten their kickbacks.Luckily, I was referred to a holistic health consultant trained originally by Native Americans. She showed me how to get in balance without hormones, and I'm fine. This book, and many like them, should be read with caution. When doctors write books, it's the same to them as writing a prescription.Forget the cures, find the cause. When the cause is eliminated, there's no need for a cure. Read Gangi, then add this as a follow-up.

5-0 out of 5 stars At Last - Life Changing Truth About Natural HRT for Women
This is the first truly detailed and informative book I've read on Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy (NHRT) that I can really use. Now at age 51, I had started a NHRT regemin at age 49 that was helping, but I did not understand why sometimes it didn't work very well or not at all for some debillitating symptoms. I was also concerned about increasing my risk for cancer. After reading this book, and adjusting my hormone intake, I am no longer suffering from migraines, I no longer fear increasing my risk for cancer, the mind fuzziers are pretty much gone, and I feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally that I have in years - I'm talking since about age 15 here! As women, we must become informed about our hormone balances and imbalances, especially if we suffer from dramatic mood swings in our earlier years, or are approaching, or experiencing menopause. This book will become a permanent part of your 'health library'. Very self empowering!
5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific book providing a good understanding of synthetic vs bio-identical hormones
Dr. Reiss clearly presents how important the hormones are to health, and how your understanding of them can help. This is a very accessible book, and a must read for anyone who has an interest in health (does that leave anyone out?) ... Read more

The book itself is very educational, also, has a lot of information on titles of other good reads to look for as well as phone numbers and places to seek treatments.
4-0 out of 5 stars Outsmart Your Cancer Reader Review
Overall, I thought that the book presents a credible case for using alternative treatments for cancer although there are substantial areas where clarification is needed. The author, Tanya Harter Pierce, is not a doctor and states that the book is the result of extensive personal research carried out by herself after a family member was diagnosed with cancer.

This book changed my life. It was given to me free when I bought some vitamins, and I am so glad it fell in my hands! All the things Dr. Schwartzbein says have made sense to me for a long time - I never did jump on the low fat bandwagon and knew that natural was always better than man-made (butter vs. margarine). What I didn't know was WHY I felt so bad when I ate sugar or how harmful damaged fats were. Just cutting out damaged fats alone has caused my chronic stomach aches to cease! 4-0 out of 5 stars Important work if one understands its place
This is an important work, helping to document the validity of herbal medicine. However, it is not an all-encompassing work and obviously isn't referenced. Nevertheless, the German Commission E's method of publishing monographs based on the information gathered from companies, researchers, and practitioners (but apparently kept confidential) serves a useful purpose. It is always helpful to consult this text to get some solid conformation for common traditional uses. Every practitioner and researcher should have this book, though it certainly cannot be used in a vacuum.

2-0 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment!
I had hoped this book could be my benchmark for herbal information. What I found was a book that was hard to use with little useful information....Otherwise, Facts and Comparisions' Review of Natural Products is a better choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Solid and Dependable Work on the Market
I have worked with herbs for many decades and have shelves and shelves full of works on Herbs and Healing. The German Commission E Monographs is still an often used Reference that in my oppinion belongs on everyone's shelf who works with Herbs. True, it does not cover all that the herbs are capable of and due to lack of proof, many wonderful herbs are not approved, BUT, and this is most important, whatever you find in this book is scientifically proven and you can believe it. I VERY strongly recomend this book, and the CD as well.Whenever you explore a new herb, or need to know facts, check it out in the Commission E Monographs. Then you have a very good outline from where you can start to work with, and together with other herbals get to know and experiment to arrive at your own conclusion. And that is not to mention the inclusion of interaction with other drugs, side effects, mode of administration, active composition for each monograph and different chapters that cover all that is important.A MUST for every practitioner and professional. A MUST for Everyone involved in healing, period. If you can only buy one book on herbs, I would recomend this one. Herbs are gentle and effective healers as a rule. That does not mean that when handeled and prescribed wrong they can't be fatal and dangerous as well.Due to a long time of suppression, there's much information that is doubtful at best, plain wrong and harmful at worst. So even if it's not always approving old favorites, and not mentioning all properties of all herbs, it is an amazing work. Non Nonsense and you can count on everything it says to be true. Five Stars? No way, but that's the maximum available. I would give it many more if I could. But YOU be the judge. Check it out for yourself in a store if in doubt. But don't let this work pass you without giving it a chance. It is truly a treassure. ... Read more

As I read this book, I get the "eureka!"-feeling at nearly every turn of page. It all seems so logical when Myers lays it out. This book has really sparked my interest for Structural Integration therapy and I am going to order all of the Anatomy Trains DVDs - the first three are already on the way. I can also heartily recommend Ida P. Rolf's books on Structural Integration - she's the originator and (or should that be "but") is easily understood, just like Myers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The communicating whole
Oschman did something quite exceptional in this book; he expressed my understanding of the way living things work, but went beyond my dark intuitive sense of the significance of the whole, to a crisp, intellectual, yet poetic, expression of the parts in relation to that whole

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional compilation of research
I received this book from Amazon a few days ago and am halfway through it. I'm so impressed by Oschman's compilation of research - it's provided me with countless answers I've been seeking all my life. I am a degreed mechanical engineer, and am currently getting an advanced degree in Oriental Medicine. I've also been practicing Reiki and other energy healing modalities for several years, having been drawn into these alternative healing fields because of my natural ability for sensing subtle energies ever since I was little. Until I started reading Oschman's book I never had a scientific explanation for this energy or why it was so helpful in healing others. I've always known that these energies are real but I definitely appreciate a scientific explanation for any type of energy phenomenon - it makes it much easier to explain to others who haven't had similar experiences why and how they happen. I meet a lot of people who are interested in energy healing and some who are quite skeptical of its validity. Thanks to this book, I now have a clear way of explaining what I and countless others have known all along - that energy medicine really does work. If you're simply curious about why energy medicine works, or you're a practitioner yourself and have wanted a scientific way of explaining its validity to your friends and clients, you'll definitely appreciate this book (even with the $40 price tag). Keep in mind, however, that this book will not teach you how to practice any of these energy medicine techniques - it will simply give you a very clear and easy way to explain why they work. ... Editorial Review

The first edition of this workbook is regarded as a classic in its field, and was the first book to introduce trigger point therapy to the general public as a self-care tool for alleviating chronic pain caused by a variety of conditions, including arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, headache, muscle ache, and repetitive strain injuries. As the author makes clear, all such conditions are related to lack of oxygen in exhausted or injured muscle tissue. Trigger point therapyhas been used for decades by doctors, pain specialists, and massage therapists to quickly stimulate the flow of oxygen and promote rapid pain reduction. This book makes the same techniques available to the general public with instructions that are easy to follow, and abetted by an extensive collection of charts and corresponding illustrations. 4-0 out of 5 stars Okay, But...
This a good trigger point therapy workbook, complete with "rubberball" tools, but the problem is, once again, this therapy is being touted as the "be-all-end-all" approach to pain management and health.Trigger point is a modality, a bodywork modality, and needs to be recognized as such.Just as massage, reflexology, and shiatsu are modalities, there needs to be a line drawn so people don't confuse this with a health book.Gangi's book does much better in defining our path to balanced health, and also redefines therapies such as this one so people aren't confused or misled. High on the list because it's used in massage schools, but not the best for people wanting to find the cause of their pain, and then dealing with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Useful Book for Me
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook is founded on Travell and Simons' research, but it's Travell and Simons LITE.Sixteen-hundred pages of difficult medical language have been reduced to a concise, easy-to-read 323 pages, while retaining all the essentials of trigger point science.
5-0 out of 5 stars 'Trigger Happy'
Feel a sore "knot" in your neck? Back? Leg? Then you likely know trigger points. Headaches? Sore back? Hip? Then you likely know trigger points. Why not get to know them better - and help them move out! The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook clearly explains trigger points, how to locate them, and how to de-activate them. There are well over 100 muscles identified (including pronunciations) in this book. The delightful news is that you don't need to learn them all (or how to pronounce them) before you begin! Thanks to the smartly-designed illustrations and easy-to-understand guidelines, you can begin the healing process right away! Being a colossal skeptic, I am hesitant whenever I encounter an exaggerated claim...but here goes. This book has actually changed my life! And I'm confident it will continue to do so. Within two days of using this book, I felt genuine relief from my long-time companion: pain. As a great believer in the "patient, heal thyself" approach, I have tried many remedies over the years - including massage, reflexology and accupressure. I continued the search. I was aware of trigger points and some of the mischief they can cause, however, it was not until I came across this book that I actually understood trigger points. This book has changed my life - and I'm thrilled to have found it! Can this book change your life? Yes. Will this book change your life? I encourage even the most skeptic of skeptics to give it a try. You will be glad you did. Mr. Davies and his daughter, Amber, have given us the tools to help us help ourselves heal. They note on page 45: "You deserve to be pain free. Give yourself this gift." It's in your hands - literally. A piece of advice...get yourself a good highlighter. You'll want one. Happy healing!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Precison and the creation of genius
Although the Patterns books are old books, they explain everything in an understandable and exact way and I do mean exhaustively understandable and exact which is why I like them so much. I bought Patterns 1 in paperback and Patterns 2 in hardcover. But anyhow, showing the exactitudes and subtleties of the use of language in deep-trance hypnosis is genuinely fascinating no matter how long-winded the descriptions and stuff get. Who knows? The way he used language may have been the real beginning of "the subliminal movement". Well very interesting reading nevertheless.
5-0 out of 5 stars BANDLER AND GRINDER, NOT JUST AUTHORS
Richard Bandler and John Grinder did not just read and study Milton's method of hypnosis, they lived it day in and day out for years. They modeled it, along with Virginia Satir's therapy models, Moshe Feldenkrais movement models and others. This book is their primary work on the structure of Milton's trance inductions and his ability to create successful generative change in his patients. It is a must read for the serious student of hypnosis and a suggested read for everyone willing to work a bit to get to the good stuff.

Sir Cyril Burt achieved unparalleled results in researching the effects of environment and heredity on identical twins.Only after his death did it become clear that the alleged research had never happened, that Burt lied to further what he perceived to be a greater truth.

3-0 out of 5 stars Book is for Vegans or people thinking about becoming Vegan
Granted, some of this book made me laugh out loud and reconsider some of the things I was eating. But overall, is a book telling you to go Vegan. The book doesn't talk enough about organic foods and free-range meats. It is all about meat, eggs, and milk = being fat...no matter if it comes from organic free-range sources or not.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat useful, but not what I had in mind.
I have long suspected that most of us are poisoning ourselves with food.I have noticed that many food products which used to be wholesome have quietly changed over time, incorporating chemicals and cheap substitutes to increase profit margin. This book certainly supports my suspicions.I purchased Skinny [...] hoping to find easy-to-read advice on selecting food products which still ARE healthy to eat, as well as information on the benefits of certain foods. This topic is covered to an extent. What I did not expect was the vegan manifesto. In the back of the book, the authors state that their primary reason for penning this text was to promote the vegan lifestyle. This information would be best included on the cover rather than at the end.If you read the information in the book through the appropriate filter, it is much easier to glean a little more fact, in my opinion.I did appreciate the lists of suggested menus and products; however, I was unable to locate any of the products either on health food store shelves or on the internet. The product suggestions may be outdated or too regional in focus.Overall, there is some good information in there, but realize that it has a definite slant.

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm going to keep this short and sweet...
I will be honest, and say that the only reason I bought this book was because I thought it was cute. After taking it home, I quickly realized it was more serious than the title let on. I had no idea the brunt of the book was about veganism. I was a huge meat eater when I bought it, but let me tell you, as soon as I read about the USDA and the mistreatment of animals, I never touched meat a
