I thought this book was very useful in the study of Criminal Law at the undergraduate level. I enjoyed the author's selection of cases and thought that they were edited well so that they remained readable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text
As one of Professor Samaha's students, I found that using this particular text in corrolation with his lectures was extremely benefical in learning the basics of criminal law.His personal insight on the case studies undoubtedly aided in understanding the material, but I suspect that the text would not have stuck me as such an outstanding book had Professor Samaha not been there to add additional information on each aspect of his work. However, even without the personal commentary, the text is still a very clear and concise resource that would be excellent for an introductory course on criminal law. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A very useful book - whether you go to law school or not
I was seriously considering applying to the law school last summer, and this book was one of those that I purchased to read along with LSAT prep books. The book had specific cases lined up in order from easy ones to more complicated, and it hasquestions of the end of each chapter, so that you can test yourself and your udnerstanding of material and how it applies in the courtroom. Also, I liked the sense of humor of the author; it was very encoureging in the beginning, and then kept peeking throught the book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Buy this if you want to waste your time
All of the E&E books I have read, especially this one, are disappointing. I guess they can be helpful if you haven't been attending class and need to learn the material for the first time. But I'm not sure why a student who has kept up in class would waste time with such a vague and introductory study guide. I recommend a more advanced, detailed and concise study guide. Also, the Q&As at the end of the chapters are too verbose for what they cover. Most of the answers are pages long, when they should be at most a few paragraphs, if not a few sentences.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are struggling in Civil Procedure, buy this book.
Personally, I found Civil Procedure was the most difficult class in my first year of law school.I purchases several secondary sources but none were as helpful as Glannon's book.Glannon's book teaches by taking its reader through series of exercises that start with the basics then build into complex problems. Each problem comes with well written, complete, and comprehendible answers. The book uses helpful diagrams for explaining confusing topics such as the sometimes-confusing relationship between subject matter jurisdiction, person jurisdiction, and venue. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Quite Comprehensive
This text offers great details, but I did not rate it as 5 stars because (1) when searching for content, it is difficult to see the key words in the text and (2) the case studies are well selected, but since they are inserted throughout the chapter, it is challenging to determine where the case ends and the author's content begins.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Pictures are Really Entertaining.
Happily, I discovered this book shortly after another one of my recommendations; "The Elementary Common Sense of Thomas Paine." It was truly fascinating to read about the events that occurred in Colonial America shortly before the Declaration, and see those events referenced in our constitution. You will understand the evolution of our government from colonial to country by reading both. Enthusiastically Recommended for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every American should buy this book
This is a visually wonderful book.Sam Fink originally did a pen-and-ink version of this, which was later revised to be a full-colour version for Welcome Books.Apart from the briefest of commentary pieces, this is simply the text of the U.S. Constitution, from Preamble to Twenty-Seventh Amendment.Fink has done an engaging hand-inscribed version with illustrative artwork, sometimes symbolic and sometimes demonstrative. For example, for the Thirteen Amendment (the one passed in 1865 to abolish slavery), Fink's graphic shows strong chains being broken by a pair of shears that have been painted red, white and blue like the flag. For the Sixteenth Amendment (the 1913 amendment permitting general income taxes), Fink's drawing shows a man standing next to Uncle Sam, with Uncle Sam's hand reaching surreptitiously into the unsuspecting man's pocket.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why would you buy this book?
The title of this book is the giveaway.Apparently, the author has not read the Constitution FOR the United States of America. It is NOT the Constitution of the United States of America."for" places the Constitution in proper context as the set of rules for the government.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great corrections book
I've taught college-level corrections courses for quite a few years now and have kicked around a number of different corrections texts. This new edition is definitely an improvement over previous ones--it's much heavier on the recent empirical research, which helps me to keep my students "on track" with what the actual research indicates regarding a number of correctional topics.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review of American Corrections, 7th Edition
Clear, Cole, & Reisig present a thorough overview of classic and historical correctional philosophy that is strongly tied to their discussion of more contemporary issues. Each revision includes the most up to date, critically acclaimed research from top criminology journals. Additionally, they regularly cite the best government sources (such as the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Federal Bureau of Prisons) to support various claims. In sum, this is a fair and balanced approach to all of the important issues facing corrections. I have taught Corrections for many years, and would not consider using a book other than American Corrections.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Criminal Justice Textbook I've ever read
The name of this book should be 'The Overly-Liberal, Bleeding-Heart View of Corrections'.This was by far the worst criminal justice textbook that I have ever read.I expect textbooks for classes to give the facts and be somewhat unbiased. This book gave a VERY one-sided view which portrayed anyone that is convicted of a crime to be the actual victim; all the way from investigation to parole. This view would have been fine if it had been countered with the other side as well.I was very disappointed.I read it from from front to cover, and it was brutal. This should be a book on opinion, instead of a textbook. ... I use this book as the textbook in an Intro to Law for Paralegals class that I teach. The books is incredibly well-organized and useful. There are very few typos, and additionally it contains great references at the end of each chapter. While I think the book is designed for the classroom setting, it can also be used for self-teaching as well. Even after the class is over students can use the book as a reference guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite study aids
I love these Examples & Explanations books. The rules make sense when you can get decent examples, and these books do a good job of that.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Great book. Definitely doesn't cover every area of Torts that you're going to need to know for your course (IIED, false imprisonment, etc.). Get Gilberts or Emanuels or just use your class notes on this stuff though. Also: if your professor has a slightly different view on the rules (even if it's just a difference in semantics) use your prof's rules when working the Examples. Writing out your answers to the Examples throughout the semester will solidify your knowledge and you won't have to struggle to memorize the elements of each rule at the end of the semester.

4-0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL WHICH EDITION YOU BUY!
The book is great as it is, no doubt, but the older editions do not have Products Liability in them, which is VITAL to your studies. Make sure you get the latest edition, which has two chapters on PL.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blum is the Contracts Master
This is the best study aid I had in my first year.Blum's E&E helped me understand concepts as they came up, and was perfect for outlining at the end of the term.Buy it - you won't regret it!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but I wasn't thrilled
Good book, but perhaps not the best for my course. I initially bought Gilberts and this book. Then I tried to order a different used study aid online and the seller sent me Emanuel's on Contracts, which ended up being the best study aid for Contracts, I thought. Back to the E&E: this book gives a good overview and a clear explanation. The Examples and Explanations are pretty good. However, I agree with the reviewer above that Blum is too vague in the Explanations. Just give us the answer (whether "yes," "no," or "could go either way")! I also have another complaint about the Explanations -- they're way too damn long! Get to the point! I sat there for 10 minutes reading a 4 page Explanation. It's ridiculous. I felt like I was reading High Court case briefs when I was reading the Explanations. I do like the fact that there are Examples that you can work, but Emanuels has Questions following each chapter as well that are more concise and to the point.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Surveyor's Bible
While preparing for my licensing exam, I read this book from cover to cover. It addresses every principle of retracement (sequential and simultaneous conveyances), public lands, and riparian issues thoroughly. The highlighted "principle" at the heading of each new topic makes remembering the main points simple. I can honestly say that every question on the NCEES exam that dealt with general principles and practice was answered in this book. I passed on my first sitting, and this book was one of the main reasons why. If you can only study one reference, this is it. Every practicing surveyor should also refer to it regularly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining & Enlightening
Upon receiving my copies of "Contracts" audio CDs (Douglas J. Whaley), I am surprised at the negative reviews.Having completed two masters degrees, I have plenty of experience with poor instructors, poor textbooks, poor audio lessons; and poor universities. In my opinion, these Contracts CDs are excellent.Professor Whaley provides:(a) a clear speaking voice; (b) excellent inflection to keep the listener's attention; (c) good humor and vocabulary; (d) humorous case examples (e.g., minors as chimpanzees, dog law, paid-in-full checks, etc.); (e) well-organized lectures; and (f) plenty of detail to support further research. While I am not a Law student, these CDs are providing an excellent refresher for my MBA Business Law classes. These CDs are worth the price, and I will be ordering Professor Whaley's CDs on "Sale & Lease of Goods" (as well as the Finz CDs on Torts).

3-0 out of 5 stars Anyone... anyone... Bueller?
I have two S&S sets, Contracts and Torts. The difference is night and day.The Torts CDs are dare I say it... fun!The Contracts CDs are sooo dry and boring as to make them almost unlistenable. It's almost like listening to someone read from a textbook.I gave it 3 stars because some people might be looking for that type of "just give me the facts" approach. But my preference is for an entertaining listen that makes the CDs fun and memorable. You will NOT find that here.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Review
I really enjoyed Professor Whaley. He does stammer a bit, but he speaks very fast and covers a lot. I love his viewpoints and he clearly loves the subject. He has a great sense of humor and makes the lectures dynamic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent supplement to the Hillman/Summers Casebook
This hornbook makes reading the case book very, very easy.It summarizes all of the concepts from their textbook in a simple and concise manner.I highly recommend reading this book and staying afew pages ahead of your assigned text reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent prepatory book
I bought this and used it heavily through Contracts, and found it took be a very good supplement to the casebook. It covers the main issues in very good detail, but cannot be trusted as a single source for contract law of course - a short book could not be expected to do that.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good study aid. He didn't cover some topics iwith the same detail as my professor, but what he does cover is presented in a concise and clear manner. I also enjoyed his perspective on contract law, for example the way he organizes the material and the examples he uses to present the ideas. Overall I'm glad I read this as part of my exam preparation.
