The rich are different from the rest of us, if for no other reason than U.S. tax and securities laws allow them to invest in ways that keep us from catching up to them. That's why 90 percent of all corporate shares of stock are owned by 10 percent of the people. Kiyosaki believes it's possible for anyone to move up into that 10 percent, but it takes a different view of investing than most people have: it takes a plan to be a successful investor. And a plan is more than simply buying and selling, or collecting "assets" that bring in no cash and are thus more akin to liabilities. The way most people invest, "they might as well be pushing a wheelbarrow in a circle," he writes. A plan is "mechanical, automatic, and boring," a formula for success that has worked historically for most of those who've used it. Kiyosaki's "rich dad" (actually, the father of his best friend) tells him the simplest analogy is the game Monopoly: buy four green houses, trade them for one red hotel, and repeat until you become rich.Read more

Kiyosaki - Does it Again!
Kiyosaki's third book in his Rich Dad, Poor Dad series delivers again.This book is a logical progression of RDPD and CFQ building on his principals of building wealth for the first half of the book.Afterwards, Kiyosaki unveals what the reader has been waiting for . . . just how the rich invest.He disclaims the book plainly for the reader looking for the next hot stock tip or get rich quick scheme.The book delivers on it's title from a principal information standpoint, which should suit readers that realize that wealth is built up over time and based upon timeless principals and a strong foundation.The last two phases of the book are extremely well-written.Kiyosaki covers financial ratios, IPO offerings, taking companies public, and of course real estate principals.He presents his information to get you thinking not to give you answers for he knows the answers will come if the action is initiated.Another aspect of Kiyosaki that I particularly like is that he discusses his failures, which should let the masses know that riches are often found after many failures (more often it is the norm).So if you want easy answers - don't buy this book.If you want principals, ingredients for success in building wealth, and systematic structure on what you should be thinking in acquiring and KEEPING your wealth - this is your book!

One of my most picked up books!
I have read this book and keep this as a reference when referring to my questions on money and finance. This book is a definite read and its definitly the type of books that you read several times for reasons of referring back to the ideals of money. Another book I reccommend is THINK LIKE A BILLIONAIRE by Scot Anderson.

Get the 10th edition.
I can't say that I'm pleased with the new edition. The information is grossly disorganized, there are no introductory chapters, and important information has been omitted or dumbed down, e.g. the section on fat-soluble vitamins, specifically vitamin A.
A complete Pharmacological Encyclopedia
This book is a complete pharmacological encyclopedia from its days of inception.It is useful to any physician as a desk reference.
A rehash
I am a physician, and recently used the previous (10th) edition as an overview for a presentation I was preparing on opioid analgesics.We just got our new, 11th edition, and I embarked on a comparison of the chapters.To my astonishment, despite the considerable ongoing research in opioid pharmacology, the chapters were practically identical, with the new edition providing NO substantive new information.I cannot speak to the rest of this venerable reference, but this chapter was just a rehash (and a big disappointment). ... Wonderful, Insightful Book!
I loved reading this book. It gave me a lot more to consider, subjectively speaking, with where my happiness comes from, and why. It's a great book, and a great read. I highly recommend it!
Horrible writer who does not respect the intelligence of his readers
Based on the reviews I ordered this book and starting to read it with a sense of anticipation and excitement.I was badly disappointed.The material Gilbertdealing with is interesting andobviously he is aknowledgeable. The big problem is thathis writing is almost a parody ofpopular science writing.I guess his editor told him to be personable and relate to his readers.What we gotinstead is a narcissistic, verbosenarrative an idea every five or six paragraphs, deeply buried inGilbert's accounts of his cigar smoking and other tidbitsdrawn from his tedious observations of own life. It seems that he has no respect for the intelligence of his reader who he feels he has to entertain withcute and trite commentsin every other sentence. When you compare him to someone whoboth respects the intelligence of readers and knows how to write such as Daniel Goleman,you realize that popular science writing is a difficult art and Gilbert has no talent for it.
Stumbling on Happiness is a home run....
"Stumbling" is a do-it-yourselfer's self-help book.Dan's insights into why we behave so illogically and sabotage our happiness are brilliant, but he resists the temptation to be prescriptive...

"Not Even Wrong" for Dummies
I read this book a month or so after finishing "Not Even Wrong" by mathematician Peter Woit.Both volumes deal with the same subject: the failure of string theory to make testable predictions that would allow it to be proven or falsified.Both works are excellent.This one has the advantage of being far more understandable for laypeople. After years of spirited propaganda by string theorists purporting to have stumbled upon the ultimate theory of nature, we now have a revealing, tell-all tale that throws back the covers on what has turned out to be the most intellectually disengenuous ruse in the history of science - the continual presentation of string theory as the be-all, end-all theory of everything -despite its utter lack of predictive power, its failure to predict dark energy, its myriad of versions, and its reliance on anthropic reasoning. Smolin, along with Peter Woit (who also dared to go against the 'establishment') should be thanked for bringing this house-of-crashing cards to the public's attention. Despite pitiful and below-the-belt attacks and outright dismissal by members of the 'stringy' establishment, including a scathing and unprovoked attack by a theorist from Harvard who sees a threat in works of this nature, Smolin gives us a thoughful and provoking look at the many failures (and occasional mathematical successes) of the most overhyped theory in the history of science.

Great book, but not perfect
This is a superb, five star, technical book. Smolin starts by describing the five, big, unsolved problems of physics. Then proceeds to a wide ranging overview of the last three decades of theoretical and experimental work, assessing how much (if any) progress has been made toward answering the five big problems. String theory from this perspective gets a failing grade. Smolin's writing is always clear and lucid, providing non-physicists with at least a modicum of understanding of complex issues. If you have any interest in modern physics, I urge you to read this book.

helpful, but needed more examples
I used book for my Yoga Teacher training course. Learning the larger muscles is easy, but the smaller more detailed, deeper muscles is diffucult. This book really illustrated these wonderfully!
great book
The pictures are really good, and the writing is quite clear. I am a graduate student in Movement Science, so am interested in the scientific aspects of movement. This book is an excellent bridge between the dancer/movement specialist and the biomechanics student.

Excellent, full of examples, easy to follow
This book is one of the best, most thorough and well explained textbooks I have encountered in the past 5 years of school.The authors, one of whom is teaching my course, present their explanations in a way that is both thorough and accessible.This is not a cookbook by any means - it is a very solid, detailed foundation for power electronics, and doesn't gloss over the important concepts like other books in the field.If you're just looking for a reference book with equations, circuits, and tables, this isn't for you.However, if you're looking for a text to study and understand in detail, you'll be right at home.

Lots of information with some open ended information
I would agree with the other reviewer that this is not a "how to" book. The book approaches the subject from an academic viewpoint. The reader is expected to fill in between the lines with previous experience. It appears that the authors, professors as U of C, supplement the text with worked out examples for their students. I would recomend it to people already versed in the subject and want more information.I found it for half price and this makes it worth buying as a reference. ... Read more

This is a supplement, not a primary resource
Hopefully this statement will help those of you who are trying to decide what to buy: If you do not own a full copy of the APA Publication Manual, then do not buy this book. This book is meant to be a pocket-sized reference guide that you can carry with you. It is meant as a supplement, but it is not the primary resource -- the APA Publication Manual is the primary resource.
Incomplete
There's no rules for title pages, no examples of manuscript pages, no rules for pagination. It doesn't even tell you if the reference list belongs on a separate page or what its heading looks like. I consider these glaring omissions, particularly if you are expected to use pure APA and have no departmental style guide (like me). This book is basically a glorified guide to citation and syntactic rules. Avoid it and pay the extra five bucks for the complete book. Getting the cheap book as some kind of protest won't signficantly hurt the APA and it will just make things harder for you.

Good book, lacking in visual references
While this is a great condensation of the main rules needed to write in APA style, this book lacks one major thing -- the practical examples of how to apply APA style in a document or manuscript.

I bought the book for a class but I highly reccommend it to anyone aspiring to be a leader in their given profession.

Good motivational book
Leadership is to be an active process that gathers people to participate in a common vision.Leaders are to set a good example, take risks, encourage others, and never quit.Although the authors present their book as a new approach to leadership, they share nothing that is original.For instance, under "Model the Way," leaders are encouraged to follow the Biblical principle of Matthew 5:37- "But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'" (NKJV), and of Ephesians 4:29- "Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them (NLT)."In "Encourage the Heart," the authors appear to utilize B.F. Skinner's "operant conditioning" theory by suggesting leaders to provide rewards and congratulate people for work-related achievements."Enable Others to Act" is built on the principle of teamwork as found in 1 Corinthians 12:12-27- "The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up only one body... each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it" (NLT).From a secular standpoint, the book offers good insight; however, from a Biblical leadership model, it falls short in certain areas.For example, the best leader to model is the one who models Christ- "Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ" (1 Cor. 11:1 NKJV), while the attitude of a leader should be: "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men" (NASB).Leadership should never be taken lightly, in fact the Bible says, "Let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment" (James 3:1). Bridge the gap
Statistics books are either too hard or way too basic for non-statisticians.
Lots of theory, not enough application
I've read the other reviews and I generally agree: This is a well written stats book, especially if you are trying to learn the underlying theories rather than just randomly banging around on a keyboard. However, don't expect this book to be a particularly good choice if you need to do anything much more difficult than a one-way ANOVA.Even though this book is 770+ pages long, Field doesn't address realistic scenarios. For example, even though he devotes about 210 pages to all sorts of ANOVA, there is no mention of repeated measures ANCOVA, which is not that unusual. In some places, he seems to suggest that something is really difficult (e.g., contrasts in repeated measures ANOVA) and then offers only weak examples of what to do about it with no mention of how to report what you've done. In fact, he offers very few examples of how to report results, and in some cases, his running examples are nonsignificant so his reporting examples stop short.All together, this is a good stats theory book with an intro to SPSS, but it's not the kind of book that is going to get you through many real-world analyses. I would recommend this book to undergraduates and graduate students who feel they need some more background, but folks in the field are better off looking elsewhere.

This was exactly what I was looking for!
The author provides clear explanation of various statistic techniques; what each of them means, when to be applied, and how to use them in a very understandable way. This was what I was exactly looking for. Good examples with step by step guide with actual dialog boxes from the SPSS window are also very helpful. I really like it a lot. Highly disappointing
While the class I took that used this textbook was informative, this book was full of what seemed to be the authors' personal opinons.Like another person said here in the reviews about blame on the Bush administration, and lack of references aside from photo credits, this book seemed to be geared more towards giving you the biased outlook of the author than an unbiased view of environmental science.
Interestign articles with a thick political spin
This revision must have been specially produced just to include all the anti-Bush rhetoric.In nearly every chapter, responsibility for the current state of the environment is laid squarly on President Bush's administration.

Great ideas for assessing writing
I really enjoyed reading this book and I am excited about starting to use this method when school starts again. Teaching writing can be difficult, but how to give constructive feedback is even harder. I am optimistic that the ideas in this book will make it a whole lot easier to help my children.

I looked at many writing books for my child. A school teacher recommended this one to me. After we used it as the primary writing guide, my child's writing took off. It's so effective that his writing has jumped from average to outstanding in his class. Now the book is one of our two MUST-DOs every week (the other is Beestar online ELA and vocabulary exercises, a wonderful web site www.beestar.org). Writing is a life-long skill. We will continue use this guide to improve writing for a long time.

A great book for SAS and statistics beginners
.. that is of little use for advanced users. Most of the book's chapters (1-4, 10-19) deal with general-purpose SAS programming techniques, and the rest introduce one to REG, ANOVA, TTEST, CORR, FACTOR and LOGISTIC procedures. Discussion isnon-technical and never in-depth, with the short shrift given to PROC REG especially disappointing. Many capabilities of selected procedures are not discussed, and, of course, a host of other important SAS/STAT procedures do not even make the cut. (MODEL? And speaking of non-statistical ones: what do you make of a book that devotes 200+ pages to SAS programming tips, including a chapter on merging datasets, and whose index has no mention of PROC SQL?) Overall, I think that the book is a friendly, clear and well-organized (as is typical of Ron Cody's writing) introduction for beginners, e.g. college stats students, but more seasoned statisticians should go straight to SAS/STAT User's Guide (available online). Don't even think about considering this (pricey) volume an up-to-date or reasonably broad reference on SAS's statistical capabilities.

I did not like this book. The organization was abysmal, and I decided to sell it back to the college bookstore for use by future hapless students, because it is not good as a reference guide.

The IBC more than just another building code
The IBC is the long-time-coming consolidation of the three major building codes in the US and there is nothing "international" about it.Back in the 70's the 3 code organizations formed BOCA and put out a 1 & 2 family dwelling code. The 3 members them gradually made changes to the individual building codes that brought them into similar formats, then they combined them into one code in 2000, the IBC, and modified the dwelling code to be the IRC (Int. Residential Code)and changed the organization's name to the ICC, the Int. Code Council. There little to review about the content since it is either the law in your area or it is not.For comparisons to previous codes and other information try the ICC's website http://www.iccsafe.org/

Unique Approach
I finished "Entries & Exits" (Actually, I read it twice) and enjoyed it on so many levels.It was a great opportunity for insight into a diverse group of traders and I was especially struck by the unique blend of methods used by this group of successful traders.What is consistent is the commitment to personal growth, independent thinking, and seeing trading as a business with both fascinating and mundane aspects as with most businesses.The interviews with Sherry and Diane struck a chord as so few women make it into print in the trading literature.
A great look at a diverse group of traders
In my opinion this is by far the best of Elder's three trading books.To really enjoy it, however, I believe you'd have to be at least somewhat familiar with Elder's trading style, and reading one of his earlier books would probably be a good precursor to exploring this one.This book consists of sixteen interviews of professional or aspiring to be professional traders.Some, like Gerald Appel (inventor of MACD) are very well known, and some are relative novices to the craft.But all are serious about their work.They have accounts of various sizes (from "small" of less than 250k to "large" of over 1m), come from all over the world, trade different markets, and have methods that range widely, though all are TA (technical analysis) based.I really have to give Dr. Elder credit for selecting such a wide range of trading styles and personalities-far too many to detail here.

Rediculous!
After listening to 2 of 5 CD`s I was ready to give the audio book away. After listening to #3 and #4 it only got worse. Trump & Kiyosaki should be ashamed of themselves for passing this nonsense off as business advice.
You will learn from this book if you are ready and willing to do the work
There is a basic rule in taking advice:Never take it from someone who has not achieved the thing you want to achieve. That means, if you want to be rich, you must learn to ignore people who are not rich when they spew their opinions at you. This rule has never been more relevant than now, when comparing these two men of great achievement with the envious, entitlement-minded people who are disparaging the book with ignorant, negative reviews.
Kiyosaki is a broken record
After reading this book and Rich Dad Poor Dad, I have come to one conclusion...Robert Kiyosaki is a broken record. How many times can I read him write the same sentance and paragraph- over and over again in the same book?Kiyosaki's portion of the book provides some surface information but little depth on how to become wealthy, eventhough he specifically claims that he wants to teach us how to become rich.His writing style is a bit arrogant and provides little value to a person wishing to learn about personal finance.I agree with previous reviews about this book being a cheerleader book.

Helpful guide
Although I've written many research papers, I found this book to be a great guide to help me 'fill in' the missing pieces in my work.It provides useful guidelines in all phases of research writing, from picking the right topic to statistical techniques.

Great book, it is very easy to follow and understand.It provides great samples and guides on how to do a research paper. I certainly would recommend it to anyone that needs help or guidance on research project writing.

Required Reading
Practical Research actually is required reading for my Ph.D. Since it is a text book is does cost a lot. It was the same price at Amazon as it would have been to order it through my university. However, the shipping was free with Amazon, so I came out ahead. The book is well written, in plain English. The advice is practical. Some of the advice about using technology is a bit behind the times, but that is to be expected. The font size is small, but this would not be a problem for most people under 40. ... Read more
