successful manager's review
i gave this book 3 stars because of the size. although, it is very helpful in many ways, i feel that the writers of this book could have condensed a bit more. other than the size i feel some of the page space was wasted on repetition. that is basically it.

One of the best choice
As a lecturer in corporate finance, I should advice to everyone to consider this book. In some 1000 pages, it summarize all different aspects of finance.
Great Book for people who want it from the beginning
This is a great book if you want to start exploring finance area. The online material is pretty good as well, the only minus is the price (which is still OK for a book like that...)

Almost Perfect
This review is strictly for the 5th Edition of Calculus: Early Transcendentals (with Tools for Enriching Calculus Video CD-ROM, iLrn Homework, and vMentor)
A great math book to own
The book has a great structure.It connects well to bring a person to advance his math skill into college-level.The structure is great and easy to follow.The proofs are clear.Different from most of math textbooks where examples are easier than exercises, this book provides the same level of difficulty on both.Although the author starts skipping proofs in multivariable calculus, he explains the reason.My recommendation is that he tie-up the structure in multivariable calculus portion.It definitely will be a 5-stars book.

The Calculus Bible
If you need to buy one calculus book... buy this one.It's got everything you will need for learning basic calculus.I was referring to this book constantly, both while taking basic math, and in more advanced courses in physics and engineering, when I would need to go back and re-learn how to integrate a particular type of problem.I was actually quite shocked to see that the last several reviews rated this book quite poorly... everyone who took math with me using this book loved it.Then again, we were all engineers, so we wanted to be doing this kind of stuff. ... first John Maxwell book I've read
As a middle manager, I found this book quite good. Not only is this book for managers, but I believe it ALL staff should read it.For those who have given negative reviews, keep in mind that there ARE people out there who've never read a book on leadership.This one is easy to read, the ideas are easy to understand.It's a great introductory book for those who think that leader is synonymous with manager. This book will help them understand the idea of leadership.

The 360 degree leader
I am disgusted with Maxwell's inability to actually write a book rather he takes quotes then compiles them in the last two thirds of his book after he puts something in earlier on. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THIS ONE.

Very Relevant
This is a great book for finding out how to bring people of differing race to an understanding. For instance, I remember one example where White students, approximately between the ages of thirteen and sixteen, were, as part of a therapeutic course, required to refer to all Black people in their environment as 'sir'.This simple sign of respect was a great way to dismantle racism.

Ethnicity and Family Therapy, third edition
This is one of the best psychology books I have ever read. Not only does it provide advice on how to treat people from certain cultures, it teaches the reader about the culture itself. This book is a marriage of cultural studies and psychology. While the book is large, the reader shouldn't be intimidated by its size. The book is broken up into several (50+) chapters and each chapter focuses on one culture. The book doesn't have to be read cover to cover. Each chapter is free standing.

Blink twice if you love it!
I blink twice all day long.I read this book in just one sitting, I could not put it down.To see how success is tied to a subconscience level of thinking is so right on.It is well written, very entertaining, and very eye opening.
Apples & Oranges
Gladwell writes well and the book is interesting. I read about half the book before I knew it! But I was jolted when Gladwell suddenly changed the focus of the book. In the first half of the book snap-judgments are good, then theyre suddenly bad. "What's up with that?" I asked myself.
Entertaining-- a little bit thinly sliced.
The Salon review of this book makes a remark that Gladwell's mission is to be entertaining, and not useful. I think that if you read this book in the spirit of that remark, you will not be disappointed.

I could've gained more insight from a nap.
........that "tag" is actually a bit harsh on my part........this really isn't a "bad" book (i.e. one that's full of errors).....it's simply a book filled with cute little truisms that basically anyone who reads the Wall Street Journal 4 times a year already knows.
Solid maxims on leadership

A message that outlasts time
Yesterday I was reminded of this awesome little book after interviewing someone who listed it as one of his favorite business reads. George S. Clason's "The Richest Man In Babylon" is one of the best books I have ever read.
Everything you'll ever need to know about money?
I have read and re-read Clasons book, and I honestly believe that his simple, thought provoking and powerful story, contains all the truths one has to learn about when it comes to the subject of money.
Simple, effective, and very powerful.
Here is a book written for literally anyone who wants to learn lessons for life on how to get rich. And for all those desperados out there dreaming of getting fantastically rich with ridiculously little effort: here is your guide. You will learn that making money and getting rich isn't hard at all, but it requires a little discipline. Great Read as well as reference
Let me preface this review with: I have a huge library of chemistry related books, of which books relating to name reactions has a prominent footprint. With that said, this is one of the most readable of its kind. Before this, I enjoyed the Jie-Jack Li name reaction book. However, as with all of them, it was just a reference manual. Kurti's, however, is a well thought out "text" with background on each reaction and color coded mechanisms. It is an excellent book for both beginners and PI's. Sick as it may sound, I actually purchsed a second copy for home as well as the office. My conclusion is that this is one of maybe 3 name reaction books that make a complete reference set.

A Good Introduction to the Topic of Petroleum Refining
My boss at work gave me this book in an effort to get me up to speed on the industries we monitor.Having absolutely no background in oil and natural gas (beyond some general remarks dropped here and there in my undergraduate engineering curriculum), I found the text to be very informative, albeit in a non-technical way.Potential readers of this text should note that the information is highly focused- the author only covers refining of petroleum, and not other topics of interest, such as oil field exploration and development or petrochemicals manufacturing.
Overrated
Recommended this to students but they found too much bad information. Maybe nontechnical means not worried about details being correct.

A comprehensive, original work
An excellent resource, which not only covers all the relevant ground regarding conceiving and implementing an SEM program, but discusses the necessary approach one must take to make your program happen in the business environment. I've never seen a such a "how to" resource include -- and in such thorough and accuate detail -- these circumstances. A welcome approach which was very helpful to me in my day-to-day work.

Very useful
I needed to order this book for a class. It is well written and easy to read. As a reading teacher I can say that I will keep this book as a reference long after the class has ended. This edition comes with a CD (or DVD) which I have not previewed yet, but the instructor of my class raves about it.

The best reading methods textbook I've found
I teach a course in elementary reading methods for undergraduate education students.This is the third textbook I've tried, and it is excellent! It has what students need to know about the theory and practice of teaching reading, written in a very readable, non-overwhelming way.Plus it has lots of practical teaching ideas.Our lab school saw it and ordered several copies for its teachers also.I highly recommend it.

A must have!!
I was first introduced to this book in one of my graduate literacy courses and I have been hooked every since.The teachers at my school pass it around constantly looking for ideas. Incomparable
You've got to have a Netter's Atlas on hand.You never know when you'll need it.Even if you are well out of medical school, well cocooned in your tight little sub-specialty, you still need Netter.You never know when your elderly neighbor is going to knock on your door and ask you precisely which muscle in her back hurts when she stands up, just to pick a random example.
Can you imagine that the pictures drawn by Netter are far much clearer than what we saw during dissections?
I remembered that when we did dissections in the anatomy class throughout the anatomy classes of the 1st 2 years, one student per table (who do not want to touch the corpse) would be responsible to bring and hold the Netter for the entire lesson. Netter really helped us a lot! I have browsed many other anatomy atlas and have not yet found one that is better than Netter. Although some atlases contain real pictures, they are not as clear as that in Netter! I can say, "Netter + Moore" is the golden combination for anatomy!
Visual Learner
If "a picture could say a thousand words", this book is it.I am an LPN turned Medical Coder.The book has made Anatomy `come alive'.I struggled through 2 anatomy/physiology classes in the above 2 programs & still did not feel like I understood.If you are a visual learner, this book is a must.It does have to be supplemented with written text as others have said, I use a google search when my textbooks are not enough.To determine if this book would be helpful, think of it like this, if you put together a big entertainment center, which would you find more helpful: diagrams of where each screw, nut & bolt gets attached to what piece, OR by reading a description of each piece & the description of the piece it gets attached to.For me its diagrams, so the book for me was well worth the cost ($69 + tax at Barnes & Noble, 3rd edition, soft cover). ... Big Joke
Beware! This book is no serious science book, it's no more than a paper-incarnation of a big poor joke..
The most incomplete engineering book ever.
It's a good book it just askes me as a student to assume too much.Some of the problems at the end of the chapters are incomplete.
Excellent for starters in fluid mechanics engineering.
I bought the book by mistake since I was looking for a more physical introduction to fluid mechanics. However, once I started reading, I could not stop. The book is a pleasure to read. Every concept is explained crystal clear. No single step is skipped. Almost every concept is illustrated with one or more very detailed solved examples. It is frequent in most technical books to find how the level of clarity degrades progressively as you approach the end of the book. This is not the case. Every chapter up to the very end is carefully arranged and the level is maintained.

Whatever It Takes
This is a fantastic book that demonstrates what a committed community of learners can accomplish to improve learning for all students.The ideas are testimonials of ways to bring about change through Professional Learning Communities (PLC's).The most interesting findings in this book are that lots of money was not available to bring about these changes, in fact, most of the strategies involved taking what already existed and using time or professionals in a different manner.I am spellbound by the changes shared in the schools featured in this book.I applaud the commitment of each staff member that embraced the clarity of purpose, the collaborative culture, the collective inquiry into best practice and current reality, the action orientation, the commitment to continuous improvement, the focus on results, the support of strong principals who empower teachers, and those that remained committed to face adversity, conflict, and anxiety.BRAVO!!!

Well presented
Good ideas, well presented with real life examples and explanations for some of the easy criticisms. As stated in the book, this is not a new math or reading program, it is a strategy for reaching all students.

Putting the effort where it counts most
Studies of this sort seem most relevant when the overall budgets decrease the numbers of those professionals with time to concentrate on the poor performers. With specific kinds of testing and follow through individual students can be identified and helped before too much time has passed and the road to recovery looks too difficult. Written for children
...The problem is that this books seems like it was written for high school students. The first chapter opens with a self-diagnosis: "I clarify the group's goals and ensure that the goals are formulated so members 'sink or swim' together and are committed to achieve them." Or how about, "I advocate my views and challenge the views of others in order to create high-quality and creative decions." Joining Together is a Great Resource
I read this book as an assignment in a university sociology course.It is a great resouce to have on hand if you work with teams or are intersted in organizational/group behavior.Some of the activities have been used in my"Effective Social Relations" class and we found them not onlyfun, but educational.I have not read the 1999 edition, but am hoping toget it for a graduation present this April! ...
