Excellent Strategies!
I love this book!I have used it for several years in an elementary classroom and have had the pleasure of seeing her in a workshop. She is fantastic!Her ideas are clear, easy to use and very effective.I highly recommend this for teachers and parents.

Great resource for primary teachers
This is a great resource if you want to know how to teach comprehension in grades K-2.As a former teacher of upper grades, I found it very helpful in understanding how the younger children learn.

Have the older version.
Used this in medical school. Excellent resource. In my time google and yahoo were not around, so this was the quick source. now that [...] is around, not as necessary, but still valuable. There is a pediatric version as well.
Great reference through the years
I have been using various iterations of Fitzpatrick throughout my 12 years of practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The organization, wealth of information, excellent photography (it really looks like what a provider sees in a person's skin!) all make it an invaluable reference. I am pleased to see the addition of more photography involving people of color, as upwards of 50% of the US population is now minority.

Great reference
My preference overall in terms of derm texts is Habif, mostly due to organization, but this one comes in a close second.Lots of great pics and simple straightforward explanations (sometimes a little too simple).Also probably a great book for laypeople with some knowledge of medical terminology. ... Old stuffs in a new bottle--save your money
It seems to me that most of the stuffs covered in this book have already been covered several times in other books already in market. I challenge any reader to prove me wrong. That means anyone who can find that more than 10% of whatever this book says about leadership is by any means NEW. 10% is a low standard for a book aiming to help you "lead at high level". right?
Excellent compilation...
Not only does this book bring together years of research, but it also aggregates the minds of multiple leaders in the Blanchard organization. If you haven't read the other books coming out of the Ken Blanchard Companies, you'll definitely want to read this book. If you have read the others, this will be a great refresher and it provides a different format. As you know, many of the Blanchard books are in story format (aka parables) and now those story-based lessons are gathered into a more standard non-fiction book.

Book Review
Good overview on what you need to consider before you start your own business.

It's... OK.
The presentation of this book is excellent; It holds the reader's interest quite well. However, despite a recent "update", it shows it's age when the author regularly goes off on dot-com tangents, bringing the internet up in contexts that I believe the last few years have proven are not viable. Good grief, ppl. This isn't freaking 1997! We need a business text, not the wet dreams of a bunch of computer geeks turned businessmen! Anyways, if you are looking for a text with a lot of depth, look elsewhere. This book is to business textbooks what Quickbooks(c)(R)(TM) is to accounting software. In short, don't waste your money, unless you need it for a class. If so, be happy. If your prof teaches out of this, your tests will be very easy.

I've never read a more interactive book!
I have read a lot of books recently to increase my work knowledge, and I have to say that this book was the easiest and most fun to read.The writers have done an excellent job getting the reader involved, which increases the amount of information one is able to remember.This book is a real pionner in how to write educative books.Oh, yea, and the content was outstanding!

Telling Aint Training
Great book!! Any body in the training field should get a copy. Herald Stolovitch and Erica Keeps keep the reader involved throughout the entire book with constant examples and activities that are very interesting and fun. I am in the US military and training is constant in my job. Techniques are drawn out and easy to understand, making it easy for anybody to comprehend and transfer to their own training. The use of the five step training model really sets up how a training session should be held. I will use this book over and over again in the development of my professional training career.

everyone should read this book
We need change to the core, specifically on how we make, use and dispose of our "THINGS"... this is not a HOW TO book, so do not expect hands on solutions to problems you want to solve. It's more a wider view of just how much damage we are causing, and it's just mind blowing how much we can actually change by thinking different.
All is not lost!
This book is just the ticket for the average environmental pessimist.A refreshing and optimistic look at the future.It's simple, it makes sense, and it has the udeniable ring of truth.

The people criticizing this book have "misguided" all over them
There were a lot of complaints that the book wasn't specific enough, didn't give every detail to their examples, or didn't provide any examples at all. Newsflash: it was not the authors' goal to redesign our entire civilization. Their goal was to point out that it will eventually need to be done, should be done, and hopefully, with the examples they did provide, can be done. If you are disappointed a specific problem in our society wasn't solved, why don't you do as the book directed, take a few steps back, and come up with your own "effective" solution.

Friedman's history is great, but "Flat" has its drawbacks
Friedman's substantial, "The World Is Flat" is a summary of the dramatic changes in the economy of the world in the first few years of the 21st century.The book is full of great stories from all over the world that shows how, while the geography of our planet hasn't changed, that geography is becoming less and less an obstacle for business.The author shows, in a fairly amusing way, how certain dates in history (e.g. 11/9/89 - When the Walls Came Down and the Windows Went Up) represent major milestones in the progress to a flat world.These events, called flatteners, helped usher in the new globalization (version 3.0), which is exploding and resulting in a new world economy where India and China are on the same production and creative level as the United States.
The future is here, and it is starting to be evenly distributed
I have to admit I only read this book based on the fact it was topping all the best seller lists. I found it to be a worth while read. Even though I follow technology closely, I wasn't really aware of some of the points that the author made, so hopefully many will pick up something from this book. Many parts of the book I had difficulties relating to, but the new insights it provided were defently worth it.

How to destroy the United States 101 - What the book should be titled
It's a shame that US leaders have based a lot of its US policies on this book.It's like they want to make the US North Mexico or some Third World country. Really it's traitorous.

very good all-around reference
I primarily work as a structural-architectural engineer and am becoming more and more involved in civil-site work.This handbook is exactly what I was looking for in terms of something that would quickly get me "up to speed" in the fundamentals of civil-site design. Difficult to follow!
I am in a class at Community College of Baltimore Countyand we are using this book at this time. Our whole class along with the Professor find this book to be very difficult to follow. The book constantly repeats itself making it extremely boring to read and is not fluent at all. They have examples that reference charts that are 3-5 pages apart from the problem being discussed the formulas you almost have to figure out for yourself how they are used and there are alot of typos. Ever since I purchased this publication I can't stop using it.Every civil engineer should have this as part of their reference library, regardless of your area of specialty.It providesmacro to micro scale explanations of general processes, design applications, etc in a very readable format.More times than I can remember I have looked to this book for an answer or at least for some guidance and was throuroughly satisfied.No it is not a definitive reference for civil engineers but its' breadth and usability overshadows any technical shortcomings.If I had to have just one reference book for my area of practice (general civil), this would be it.Yeah, yeah, the "Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers" is a more definitive reference, but I usually find out what I need in this pub.Read more

Quick Read, excellent motivator!
I loved this book. I recommend purchasing it for anyone in sales. I gained some truly interesting tidbits. The website and newsletter for Jeff Gitomer really adds to the overall enjoyment of learning better sales techniques.

It Changed the way I thought about the selling process!
Gitomer's book helped me turn my slumping sales career into a blossoming cash cow.I found his ideas especially useful in the real estate profession.The relationships I was able to build with my potential customers solidified their trust in me and allowed the buying process to move forward, smoothly and efficiently.This is the second book of Jeffrey's that I have bought and each one gets better and better, chock full of new idea and strategies.

Enlightening!
This book very clearly and emphatically pointed out what I should have already known -- that mass marketing has little effect on today's consumer.
A purple cow with brown spots
Though I can understand the popularity of this book, Purple Cow provides an overly simplistic solution to very real marketing challenges.Purple Cow is compact, witty and filled with easy-to-remember "Godin-isms," which some people will certainly love, but being "remarkable" is not enough for building value or sustainable growth.It's not a bad start, though.
Seth Godin used to write better books
I agree with James Sadler, there is nothing new in this book. Seth Godin didn't say anything that a student or a person who works with marketing already know. He only gave a new name: Purple Cow. For me, this book has very superficial comments and examples. I'm very disappointed!!! ... Read more

good resource
The text was a great resource.I also studied with an HR textbook, and this book was better.The author used a lot of first-person language instead of objective, third-person, which was kind of annoying to read.I also think that the study tests were lacking...more questions were needed to give a feel for the testing environment.It came with a CD with flashcards for the palm pilot...those were not very helpful..you could only have one set of 25 on the handheld at a time, and they were in a Q&A format, but the test is in multiple choice.

I got my SPHR because of this book!
Great study tool if you want to "go it alone" preparing for the SPHR/PHR.

A Good Resource only for HR Majors
Luckily I passed the PHR exam but I'm not sure this book was responsible for it.If you majored in Human Resources in college and need a refresher on the terms and concepts this book will work for you.It helps with the terms and concepts but will not help with the exam since most of the questions are subjective.

A must read for anyone!
Crucial Confrontations is written very well, is interesting and is applicational for every aspect of life.The book was so helpful, after reading it in one weekend, I bought 8 more copies to give to my executive team members. Well done and thanks for the years of research that went into the book.I use the communication techniques outlined on a regular basis and they really, REALLY work.

Sounds great, but implementation?
The ideas presented in this book seem to be excellent ways to have critical oonversations, but I found two things lacking.First, reading about conversations and making them happen are two different things.Although it's no fault of the book, I think it will be difficult to put these easily into play without practice.

Very dissatisfied with this seller
I purchased a textbook on May 11 and it supposedly shipped on May 15, 2006.It is now June 2 and I have yet to receive this order.I do not believe that it takes 21 days for a book to arrive.What is even more infuriating is that the seller has ignored all my e-mails regarding my order.I definitely have every intention of letting Amazon know just how poorly this seller treats customers and I expect that Amazon will have to refund my money because these people won't even acknowledge a customer once they have your money.I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THIS SELLER AGAIN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!

A great book covering everything
This textbook is one of the best scientific books I have seen.Not only does it cover earth science (like geology), but astronomy and meteorology also.It covers every topic that you possibly want to know about.The authors leave no information out.I had to use this for Science Olympiad, and it helped me so much.The explanations are great, the images beautiful, and the diagrams very helpful.I would suggest this for anyone that has an interest in Earth Science or Meteorology.It is a great book. ... Excellent book fora beginer working with young people

I give quarterly supervisor training meetings with about 10 supervisors from our division. I use the activities in this book to help build communications and teamwork with the supervisors.

Creative Ideas
I selected this book in order to complete a required communications class assignment that I am presently enrolled in. The title of the book caught my attention. I am an Assessment Coordinator and I work with approximately 10 to 20 individuals at a time with a new group every three weeks. Several of the issues that I need to address that are a major concern with our clients are covered in Alanna Jone's book. These are issues dealing with self-esteem, communication, anger management, self discovery and coping skills. As instructors and parents we often find ourselves in situations where people are resistant to learning. The many reasons for this vary.

Worst writing I've read in a long time
You decide for yourself what you think about Mortenson.I think the subtitle of the book should be "How One Man Became a Dhimmi."
Put so simply...
No doubt this story seemed like an inspiring one. The question for me was, could the writer do a good job conveying it? The answer is- yes!! There are no words to describe how this story made me feel. I was moved to tears more than once. It's about time that we had something to read or listen to that speaks to the humanity of the majority of Muslims. Until now it seemed like we were given no option but to lump them all into the "fanatic" category. There was no one to speak up for the rest of the population. The story of the poor village women of Pakistan giving eggs to Greg to honor 9/11 widows was heart-wrenching. The speech by a supreme Shia ruler to a local village after 9/11 was equally gut-wrenching. Thank you to Greg Mortenson for shining a light on the region. His work building schools by working WITH tribal people of Afghanistan and Pakistan is incredibly brave. The effort taken to learn the local languages and customs is phenomenal. Thank you David Oliver Relin for bringing the story to us and for providing so much background information to help round out the story! This book helped fill so many holes in my understanding of the region. What the heck are the Taliban? Why can't Islamabad just take control of its northern region? What drives many people to choose death via "jihad" over life? I am inspired to read and understand even more about the fascinating people of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Is America more secure than on 9/11?
Besides being an exciting and courageous mission story, Three Cups of Tea is an effective alternative to Bush's so-called "compassionate conservatism" and "war on terror".

This book is an excellent learning tool!
This book is a great textbook of emergency medicine, and I've chosen it over others simply because it's comprehensive without the useless drivel.Each section includes the necessary anatomy and pathophysiological considerations for the respective disoders.The subset of conditions are mentioned with just enough facts to understand the morbidity to treat it.The pictures, diagrams, algorithmic flow-charts, and drug regimens are a nice compliment, however, most of your clinical experience is going to come from interships and residency, so to assume this book is all you'll need to get by in EM is crazy.I still think it's the best out there to read before putting your mind to work.

Downward Spiral on Autopilot
*Emergency Medicine, A Comprehensive Study Guide* has long been a well-regarded standard emergency text, useful in day-to-day practice as well as for board preparation.This new edition has advanced the enlightened 'evidence-based recommendations' for changes in practice patterns, however, the lack of editorial control has resulted in a book packed with conflicting information.Each chapter is written by a different consultant, and unfortunately not all of them are up on this concept... we therefore get a series of conflicting statements when there is overlap in topics, and there is no attempt to reconcile this variability.Admittedly, opinions in much of medicine do vary; but outright conflict within a few pages in a standard text without discussion does harm to credibility.Read more

New to Logic?You need this book.
My excitement at being the proud owner of Logic Pro 7 was quickly tempered by the sheer complexity of the software.I spent time with the included documentation and even bought another training book.But it was this book that unlocked Logic's power for me.
Tutorial for Beginners Only
I am new to Logic, but extremely well-versed in other DAW applications. I was looking for a book to cover hands-on issues not specified in the Logic manuals; what I found instead was a series of tutorials that mimic the information found in Logic. If the Logic Reference Manuals don't address a given topic - for example, dealing with latency issues or how to properly archive a project - don't expect it to be addressed here. You're paying for the same content covered again with better hands-on instruction, which may be of great benefit to beginners of the Digital Audio Workstation paradigm.

Not one of Womack's best works
I personally do a vast amount of reading with lean enterprise being of special interest. Womack has done some great work, but this is a "tough read" even for serious lean enthusiasts. I typically finish a book of this length within 2-3 days then re-read it and highlight. It literally took me 11 weeks because I was lulled to a point in which reading further would be of no benefit and would have to put it back on the shelf and revisit it days later. I realize that scholarly and business writing is not especially exciting as I am constantly reading and doing research but this one was tough even for me, an avid reader.

Common Sense isn't so Common
This book provides a very unique perspective on how to run a business.These methodologies can be applied to any industry, as the authors suggest.
LEAN as it expands
After reading "The machine that saved the world" (which I recommend reading before this one) from the same great authors, I got more and more interested in the LEAN concept. As described in this book, by 1996, LEAN became a way of thinking and operating, expanding around the world in several industries. Although this book gives a clear explanation of LEAN principles, it is still oriented into manufacturing. This book is not enough if you are willing to implement LEAN in your organization, but rather convinces you of applying it if you are still hesitating.
