5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for passing the exam
Knowledge on Project Management comes purely from practical experience. However the professional certifications matters a lot. To pass the exam, probably this is THE ONLY best book in the market. However if you want to learn project management, then sorry !!! - you are on the wrong web page dude !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I passed the PMP test on my first try on September 25th 2006. My preparation material:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best PMP Prep
Thanks in large part to this book and other Rita Mulcahy products, I passed the PMP certification test yesterday. I purchased the PMP Exam Prep Book, PMP FASTrack, as well as Test Tactics Numbers 1 and 2 (1 is better than 2). They were all very, very helpful, and the best of all the study aids I used. Questions at the end of each chapter in the book are similar to the actual test questions. Of course you will need to read, read, read the PMBOK as well as other material. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars this books is acutally really bad and some of the people who commented here are phonies who work with Michael Lindeburg.
The book goes way over board with the material. There is such a thing as studying too little and studying too much. They are both bad. This book goes into too much detail. The actual exam is alot easier. True the gimick is "guranteed to make you pass or your money back!" but the truth is, this books covers absolutely everything and the normal person can't remember all that detail. To top it off, I read reviews here and if you noticed they're like advertisements. Good Job Michael Lindeburg for your marketing efforts too bad i'm not stupid enough for fall for your tricks. Also, Michael Lindeburg's associates wrote phony reviews to other Review Books. This dude is bad news and plays dirty. Don't buy any of his stuff. I seriously regret wasting my money on this book. And I'm for real cause I'm not mentioning another book, in fact I suggest any other book besides a Michael Lindeburg. Also, I have talked about this book with my classmates and they all feel the same way as me.
1-0 out of 5 stars I am still waiting.....
I ordered this book on July 17, 2006 from Amazon. It has not been shipped yet. I have no clue when I am going to get it. Get your act together Amazon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review book
Very comprehensive review manual.Mostly consists of sample problems with solutions. If you have never studied some of the subjects, you will need other reference material than just this manual to understand them. It's a good book, but just don't expect it to be the only reference that you will need to prepare for the FE exam. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Perspective
I first bought this book 1.5 years ago when I was researching colleges for my oldest son.It changed the way I looked at selecting colleges from my prior misconceptions that "bigger is better" (like large state schools) and "it has to have a well-known name to be any good."Pope succeeded in convincing me that not only are there invaluable advantages to smaller-size schools but that there is definitely something to be said for "liberal arts & science" institutions that offer a well-rounded curriculum.I was able to relax then because my son had no idea what he wanted to pursue. As a result of reading the book, my son is now attending Cornell College in Iowa where he is getting a wonderful education in small classes with caring instructors and an administration that "took me by the hand," upon his initial arrival as a freshman, & addressed all my fears and concerns about leaving my son with a bunch of strangers 4 hours away.Because the book includes little quantitative information (%'s of in- vs out-of-staters, tuition costs, % of students who graduate/return sophomore year/go to graduate school, etc.) you will need to supplement this book with another, such as the Fiske guide, to give you a basis of comparison across schools.Even if you don't select any of the schools mentioned, it is worth a read if for nothing else other than a refreshing perspective.

3-0 out of 5 stars No schools listed in the west
Wish I had known that the book focused on schools on the east coast, in the midwest, and in the southeast. No California schools are listed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of information to consider and is thought provoking
I have a daughter ready to apply to colleges this fall and have found this book very helpful in planning and sorting through the myriad of information out there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Truthfully, just another set of excuses for poor instructional techniques!
Using MRI and neuroscience to try to answer questions about dyslexia as Sally Md Shaywitz has tried to do is dangerously short sighted and terribly misguided.Especially when you consider that her conclusions about remediation reflect what is so deeply wrong with education today.Trying to cram human brain function and the human spirit into the confines of modern educationis akin to stuffing an elephant into a thimble. Imagine if one were so dimwitted as to blame the elephant for the obvious lack of success. This is precisely what is happening today in public education. If one were able to step back from the tree and catch a glimpse of the forest, one might see that ego drives professionals to draw conclusions about student performance that reflect the stupidity of arrogance.More and more students are being labeled learning disabled and dyslexic, more medication is being doled out and more and more remediations are being invented to control and force students into a useless development that does much more to impede brain function than to enhance it.In fact, students are being driven into intellectual comas and instead of rethinking methods and curriculum, teachers blame students and their families for their own professional shortcomings. Uniforms, drill and kill, direct instruction amongst other inhumane and unintelligent strategies are exactly what has gotten us to this desperate point. In one more generation, Sally Md Shaywitz will be able to prove that 2 in 5 students have dyslexia and her confidence in modern science will soar to new heights.Teachers everywhere will be able to rejoice that their own drastic failings are not their fault at all, but that of the flawed human condition.
3-0 out of 5 stars Well meaning, but flawed and scary presentation of dyslexia
Some of the book was very interesting, especially the chapter on the functional MRI findings.I appreciate her writing the book to share her experiences, and think she truly wants to help. However, I admit I have grave doubts about her premise, because it is inherently contradictory. She repeats throughout the book that anyone who is dyslexic will always remain so, and yet is simultaneously convinced that the kind of intervention she recommends is uniformly effective. In addition, the graph on which she bases her claim about the absolute persistence of dyslexia does not justify her conclusions. The book names various intervention programs, but doesn't compare and contrast them. It is hard to tease out specific recommendations about what to do.She mentions that people vary in their reading stumbling blocks, but prescribes the same programs for all.She states that anyone using programs like Open Court should succeed, but thousands of California children still have trouble reading.Though she means the book to be empowering, I think it scares parents instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!
This is a must read for not only spec. ed teachers but regular ed. teachers as well. Dr. Shaywitz is a dedicated individual that has really hit the nail on the head with reading instruction....no guess work here, scientifically based reading instruction for true success! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book I've read on creating readers....
One and a half years ago, my kindergartener was reading at a 3rd grade level but lacked "comprehension". While he could retell basic plot elements, he appeared to lack any ability to synthesize or think about what he had read.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good read!
This book is easy to read and follow.I am studying to teach and this is one of the few books not written by a Dr. so it offers a fresh perspective!

5-0 out of 5 stars Important Home and Classroom Education
Who doesn't like to be read to?This book solidifies the feeling that reading to children builds their vocabulary, their desire to read and more over their ability to read fluently. It's all about modeling.

4-0 out of 5 stars A book with lots of practical tidbits
This seems to be a good book for begining college instructors looking for the classroom basics plus some ideas on how to modify some basic formulas to make it a bit more interesting. It manages to keep from getting too bogged down with details about specific strategies.Unfortunately, this is also it's weakness, as I did not find support readily available when I wished to know more about a specific strategy.Worth having as a basic reference.

4-0 out of 5 stars OK for teaching children - Not for teaching adults
This book is written with the assumption that you will be teaching young people in college or below(pedagogy). It is great for that.If you want to get it to learn techniques for teaching adults in the workplace(andragogy), look for another book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Teaching Tools
Regardless of the year in which this book was released, rest assured in knowing that it does provide VERY useful and timeless teaching techniques. I appreciate Dr. Gross Davis' efforts a great deal. May God bless you greatly, Dr. Gross Davis!!! This book IS a great starting point towards the quest for professional growth and development. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Asset for Parents
I was skeptical at first because I don't want to be a "pushy" parent, but I found this book to be very enlightening. It's kind of like finding the secret key that unlocks the top colleges.I have two sons, and while I try not to drive them too hard, like most parents I realize that a great education is of the utmost importance.Having this book gives me a little bit of an edge over other parents, and hey, why wouldn't you want to have an edge?Let's face it, teachers and guidance counselors do their best, but they have many students to worry about. This book is like having your own personal consultant. Some of the tips are admittedly for the supremely dedicated, but others are little things you can easily do to give your child a little boost. The advice is really good and very easy to act on.I highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful, well written and on target
I found this book to be direct, clear, and useful. The author takes a position that some will appreciate and others will not: however, no one can come away without a clear understanding of her point of view.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Advice, but I'm ambivalent
This book contained a lot of facts that I didn't know -- like the fact that savvy parents have their kids take the SAT every year beginning in sixth grade to practice for the exam, like the fact that they take the SAT prep course BEFORE the PSAT, in order to help their kids get national merit scholar.Like the fact that it's possible to move your child up on the wait list by sending faxes and e-mails.Like the fact that you should practice for college interviews with your child, rehearse making a phone call to the school, and so on and so forth.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you are new to leveling books...
This book is a great resource if you are new to leveling books. It has helped me a great deal because I don't have any of their other titles, so it is not a repeat of information. This book also has the levels of many newly published books. If you want more leveled books, though, I found a great website with tons of them for sale: www.whoossmart.com .

2-0 out of 5 stars steep price, content lacking at times
This book possesses the unfortunate combination of a high price and too many missing book titles. Not a good value for the money, in my opinion.

3-0 out of 5 stars FYI
The title should have been the first clue. This reference contains thousands of books that are already leveled by the companies who sell them in bundles of six.I was hoping that this resource would have more trade books written by authors whose intent is to engage and entertain children. As the levels increase, the number of trade books does too, but the majority of books are already leveled. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great resource!
As a new resource teacher for my school this was one of the better books I found to help me with real life solutions to teaching learning disabled children. This was a great book for explanations of various learning disabilities and set exercises to use in class for all age groups. I work mostly one on one, but found the activities and strategies easily adaptable for individual use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Book
The best resource book I have come across in many a year. Photocopiable resources covering all areas of the curriculum. Excellent lesson suggestions and outlines.I have found this book so helpful for maths, spelling, writing, handwriting and reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Also Useful for Teachers of Color
This book was a nice surprise as a pre-service teacher in education classes where the realities of white supremacy is not discussed, the first hand experiences of teachers of color are silenced, black/Latino or "at-risk multicultural" students are demonized, poor white kids are invisible and the issues of other groups are addressed superficially through "practical strategies"mandated by here today/ gone tomorrow popular scholars. This book gave me as an African American educator a space to see how whiteness functions in everyone's lives in the public school system. Each page helped me understand better why white people sometimes act in certain ways.
5-0 out of 5 stars great service
I recieved my book within 3 days by ordering on just the regular service.

2-0 out of 5 stars A little long-winded but contains nuggets of usefulness
We read this book for a graduate class on teaching other cultures. While I was disappointed at the lack of practical applications of the book, it did help to open my eyes to the idea of White Dominance. There are factors of a white-dominated culture that are invisible to us whites, and Howard does a good job of bringing those to light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
This book really makes you UNDERSTAND the new words you're learning. It's not just about memorization, thank god!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Vocabulary Book Ever
Though there are many books for enhancing vocabulary, this book by Norman Lewis is THE BEST.I used this book in high school over 20 years ago and recently purchased it to help tutor my 8th grade daughter. In flipping through the pages, I discovered that I actually remember nearly all of these words due to the ingenious, but simple format used by Norman Lewis. This elegant format is grouping words that have similar meanings together. For example, there are chapters on medical professionals, personality types, types of prevarication, insults, and words of praise. By learning words in semantically related groups, they store together in your memory.Studying words with similar meanings together also fosters an appreciation of the nuances of difference. It's a fantastic way to learn vocabulary that you'll retain. You can skip the earlier book, 30 Days to a More Powerful Vocabulary by Wilfred Funk & Norman Lewis. The earlier book has a similar format, but fewer words, shorter definitions, and a less engaging layout.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Experience
I'm skeptical of books like this. My view on expanding vocabulary is to simply read a lot and if you see a word you don't understand, then look it up. Magically, you now know what that word means. But this book surprised me, though I didn't initially realize it until much, much later, well after finishing the book and all the numerous exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful
This is a very useful tool to use to study, but I would only use it when you have studied most of the material because you'll get frustrated. This is definitely not enough to use to study for the exam.I'd HIGHLY recommend Rita's book to study and I LOVE the PMP conversations CD by ESI.That CD was sooooo useful to me and really helped me study! So, use all 3 tools in combination for a perfect mix.

3-0 out of 5 stars Repeated Information
this book had a lot of information, but nothing that required an entire book to cover. there were a lot of "methods" and ideas to incorporate in the classroom, but the organization of the book made it cumbersome to follow the examples. If you are the type of learner who appreciates a ton of examples this would be a great reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely essential
As a college student, I would be lost without this manual. It covers APA and MLA writing formats in great detail step by step, with tabs throughout the book marking each topic, making it easy to navigate. A lot of people are intimidated by the price, but $50 is a small price to pay for this kind of information.

5-0 out of 5 stars For both my jobs
I work full-time for a printer as a proofreader/editor. Part-time, I am an English instructor at the Manhattan campus of the College of New Rochelle. For both these jobs, my one and only Bible is Diana Hacker's, "A Writer's Reference". It is a comprehensive, easily accessible tool for students and professionals alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small, expensive, important
Let's be real, this book is small -- almost pocket-sized.But that's the whole idea. This tough little book provides a quick reference for all English composition forms, so serious writers will want to carry it everywhere. It is a must-have for any high-school or college student taking English composition.Any person who writes for a living should have this book as well. The spiral binding allows the open book to sit flat onyour desk. Its cover is heavily laminated so it can be tossed into a backpack or briefcase without thrashing it too much....And you won't want to thrash it because this is one expensive bad-boy book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars YES, IT IS A BOOK OF LISTS
Since 1980, Rugg's college book has helped thousands of counselors, parents, and students narrow down the overwhelming number of college options for young people. The 100 plus lists are VERY substantive, and Rugg thins out the USA's undergraduate college departments to a top 12%. To state, as a reviewer from Northfield, Minnesota did recently (July 17, 2006) "that the book is basically about location, etc." misses 98% of the book. A five-minute read of the five-page introduction informs one of what is in the book: the "top" departments at America's top colleges. How sad to have missed all that.
3-0 out of 5 stars Be aware: It's a book of lists
I'm sure this book fills a useful niche, but I did not realize before purchasing it that there would be no discussion of the programs listed at the various colleges. It is a book of lists, pure and simple. A good jumping-off place, I'm sure, but it tells one nothing substantive (besides the basic info about location, etc.) about the schools and programs listed other than that they "made the list." It's a reference book to consult at the library or school counselor's office, not a book to invest in as a college-bound student or parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rugg's Recommendations on the Colleges - 23rd Edition
No pictures of students sitting on the grassy area in front of the ivy covered brick building.Plain and simple, who has the best major programs, period. Every colleges claims they have a fantastic math, art, etc... department.Rugg's is the book that gives you some idea of how good a certain major program is at a particular college. So if you are looking for a top physics program with a strong art program, you can find it. Ruggs is the go to book, it rates the major not the school's glossy brochure. Undecided? you can use Ruggs to find the schools that have strong programs in the 4 areas you are interested in so if your first major choice doesn't work out, you can change majors without having to change school. This book got us to our top 10 choices for schools based on area of interest. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Book!!!!!!
This book has cut my grading time in half.It is very practical. It has numerous examples and a step-by-step approach to make rubric creation easy.I read several other books about rubrics but most of them were for K-12, program assessment or were completly theoretical. This book tells you have to create a tool that will allow you to grade quickly and fairly.A must have for college teachers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Help yourself know if your students are learning in class.
Rubrics (in education) in a way is like points with certain specifications (rules/requirements) you seek from your students in the work they are doing. How do you know if your students are learning history or english literature? What is the content you seek, ask, or want of them when it deals with their work? With rubrics, you will find out where exactly the student is in the material you are teaching plus the student will also know what he or she is lacking or has achieved in the unit lesson(s). If you are a beginning teacher please get this book because more and more -rubrics are being applied to unit lessons in the nations public schools. The authors (Stevens and Levi) who hail from Portland have done a super job at breaking this topic down by using clear soft writing. Being a teacher(educator) is not easy but with rubrics you will be more clear in what you ask of your students, then you will know if they have learned the material or not. Rubrics(a grid with your written specifications) will help you target everything. This is literature that teachers, substitutes and collegiate professors should have in there mini library. 10 stars! Rubrics is the bridge that links students and teachers together because both will know where one is at. ... Read more
