Excellent book for passing the exam
Knowledge on Project Management comes purely from practical experience. However the professional certifications matters a lot. To pass the exam, probably this is THE ONLY best book in the market. However if you want to learn project management, then sorry !!! - you are on the wrong web page dude !!!

I purchased the PMP Exam Prep Book, PMP FASTrack, as well as Test Tactics Numbers 1 and 2 (1 is better than 2). They were all very, very helpful, and the best of all the study aids I used. The best book ever
Actually I had the previous version of this book and after reviewing other comments, I decided that the previous version would be more than enough for me. What I want to share with you here is how I succeeded from 540 to 740.
Excellent Study Tool
This book has many practice problems, but the overall review of the materials is lacking. If you aren't up to scratch on the math and verbal already, you should consider spending on some other review materials. Make sure you time yourself while doing the problems -- timing isKEY. I used this book along with Princeton's Verbal Workout.It worked out.

The classic classic... that I still don't get why it's one.
This is another of those books that everyone tells you how wonderful and incredible it is. I read it, and... okay. It's a book. And a not-bad one at that. But is it amazing? Is it the greatest, most thought-provoking book of all times? Is it truly just overrated?

if you have to throw away $150...
If you actually buy this book you're paying for the illustrations. Don't waste your time actually reading it, the presentation of the material is ponderous and completely unimaginative. The chapter on immunology is one of the worst I've seen anywhere.
X and Y chromosomes
A more serious omission is the absense of the x chromosome from the glossarythough that y is there, unconsciously reinforcingthat men are incomplete females?Males come equipped with beefed up sixpacks whereas the woman look like demurelittle housewives. Artists havetried to depict other races but thegender representation is pathetic. Aheterosexist pro-male interpretation of human sexuality is foundthroughout the book, which can be annoying.Some of the comments obviously written with students in mindare patronizing. The layout is repetitious andand at times quite unstimulating.The best detail was why a chicken breast is white considering its a muscle.

How can this really be an Anatomy and Physiology textbook written by a Phd?There is not one picture or drawing of a male foreskin (prepuce). One does not have to wonder why the medical community is so ill prepared to deal with a normal male body. ... Read more

By far the BEST book for CISSP certification
I have been teaching the CISSP certification for IT Mentor for the last 5 years.This is the book I use for all of my students.I must say, this is the best book you can buy.I have over 20 CISSP books in my library, but I always recommend this one.
Good book, though some turn offs
The book has a good coverage on most of the topics. I think if you already have Telecom and Crypto background, you'll be fine with this book, as those don't seem to be done well enough though they are important fot the exam.
How to study and pass the CISSP.
Three weeks after I took the CISSP exam, I received an email telling me I had passed. I came out of the exam fairly confident I'd pass but one can never be too sure with the CISSP - the questions are quite ambiguous and quite often you are making an educated guess in picking out what you think is the best among the 2 choices you have narrowed down to. It has often been said that the CISSP is an exam that is an inch deep and a mile wide. You'd be lucky if you use more than half of what you studied for this exam. I am a software engineer and I know I will never have to choose which fire extinguisher to use for which kind of fire, unless I am actually struck in one!

I read this for a graduate class and found it to be a quick, easy read. The authors give you simple ways to enhance your vocabulary instruction. I would recommend this book to teachers at all levels but especially those working 3rd grade and above.

A classic!
I can't add much to what is already written here.But I must say, these teaching approaches work.The authors back up every method with careful research.Best of all, the methods are described specifically.
don't buy if you need a hardcopy!
I don't have an opinion on the book itself, it's a requirement for a class. However, I thought although there were restrictions (understandable copyright issues) on printing, I could have the inexpensive ebook, and print a hardcopy to take to the class. If you have printer issues (and you will) you will be penalized for those copies, whether they are printed, readable, or not. Subsequent downloads to override posed a different kind of printer issue, as it began printing pages 'backwards'...so I'm still out my pages. I'll have to buy the hardcopy anyway.

If someone gave you a book that had the keys to learning in it, would you read it?You are a good teacher, so of course you would, and it is this book.Many books out there are some research, some theory--this book is all research-based strategies that are proven to work in a classroom, so there is no guessing if these are effective methods or not.

ONE OF THE BEST EDUCATIONAL BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ
This is a totally fantastic book.It is written so well and in a down to earth fashion that I couldn't put it down.It was as easy to read as my favorite novel.Most importantly, however, it clearly explained how the best learning takes place.The strategies in this book hit every facet of learning as described by American Psychiatry.Put a study of this book together with a study of how our memory works, and you can't help but understand better how to teach, as well as clearly understand why other strategies have only limited success.This is a book that will stay on my desk and be read and studied over and over again.My thanks to the authors.

I love this book!
I've had this book on my shelf for 4 years and have decided to use this book, along with Reading Strategies that work by Laura Robb to enhance my reader's workshop with my third graders. You have to own this book because it gives great teaching tips on how to teach comprehension. My favorite part are the lists at the back of the book which have book to help teach a strategy and ideas on how to teach response (discussion, writing, etc)using each strategy.

This book provides lesson plans to use with specific trade books to model comprehension strategies with your students. The authors are staff developers who model the gradual release of responsibility format with students of different grade levels. Very useful
I needed to order this book for a class. It is well written and easy to read. As a reading teacher I can say that I will keep this book as a reference long after the class has ended. This edition comes with a CD (or DVD) which I have not previewed yet, but the instructor of my class raves about it.

The best reading methods textbook I've found
I teach a course in elementary reading methods for undergraduate education students.This is the third textbook I've tried, and it is excellent! It has what students need to know about the theory and practice of teaching reading, written in a very readable, non-overwhelming way.Plus it has lots of practical teaching ideas.Our lab school saw it and ordered several copies for its teachers also.I highly recommend it.

A must have!!
I was first introduced to this book in one of my graduate literacy courses and I have been hooked every since.The teachers at my school pass it around constantly looking for ideas. My favorite aspect of this book is the fact that there are real teachers giving real examples of what works in their classrooms.There are no strategies that seem too hard implement in your classroom, because the layout is right there!!You know it can be done and it words because the examples in the book are proof!You don't feel like you are reading about some ideal or Utopia of a classroom. Whatever It Takes
This is a fantastic book that demonstrates what a committed community of learners can accomplish to improve learning for all students.The ideas are testimonials of ways to bring about change through Professional Learning Communities (PLC's).The most interesting findings in this book are that lots of money was not available to bring about these changes, in fact, most of the strategies involved taking what already existed and using time or professionals in a different manner.I am spellbound by the changes shared in the schools featured in this book.I applaud the commitment of each staff member that embraced the clarity of purpose, the collaborative culture, the collective inquiry into best practice and current reality, the action orientation, the commitment to continuous improvement, the focus on results, the support of strong principals who empower teachers, and those that remained committed to face adversity, conflict, and anxiety.BRAVO!!!

Well presented
Good ideas, well presented with real life examples and explanations for some of the easy criticisms. As stated in the book, this is not a new math or reading program, it is a strategy for reaching all students.

Putting the effort where it counts most
Studies of this sort seem most relevant when the overall budgets decrease the numbers of those professionals with time to concentrate on the poor performers. With specific kinds of testing and follow through individual students can be identified and helped before too much time has passed and the road to recovery looks too difficult. Written for children
...The problem is that this books seems like it was written for high school students. The first chapter opens with a self-diagnosis: "I clarify the group's goals and ensure that the goals are formulated so members 'sink or swim' together and are committed to achieve them." Or how about, "I advocate my views and challenge the views of others in order to create high-quality and creative decions." Joining Together is a Great Resource
I read this book as an assignment in a university sociology course.It is a great resouce to have on hand if you work with teams or are intersted in organizational/group behavior.Some of the activities have been used in my"Effective Social Relations" class and we found them not onlyfun, but educational.I have not read the 1999 edition, but am hoping toget it for a graduation present this April! ... Improved My Score by 130 Points in 2 Weeks
I only had 2 weeks to study for the GMAT.I bought three books to help me, all of which were highly rated on Amazon.They were:
The Inside Scoop
No short (even at 560 large pages plus a CD) book is going to replace what you should have learned over many years of classwork. You should know the basic rules in English, mathematics and the rest. Instead, this book concentrates on the testing aspects: what areas does the test cover, how is it administered, what is the format of the test, things like that.
It's OKbut it's not enough
Although I liked the way the authors went through and reviewed the topics I needed for the exam, I did not execute most of their strategies during the actual exam.

Showed me how to teach writing
I have taught 2nd grade for 5 years.The first three years my district did not have a "set" writing curriculum.We used 6-traits, but the structured limits of that way of thinking did not help make me a good writing teacher.Those three years I tried my best to teach writing with the limited experience of writing myself.Two years ago we addapted the Lucy Calkins series.These books have changed the way I see writing and how I teach it.

These books are excellent guides for both old and new teachers.They guide you through each genre of writing.They include lessons in their entirety and scripts, as well.

Units of Study for Primary Writing : A Yearlong Curriculum
This will be incredibly helpful for my 1st graders in CO!I recommend this highly.The layout is user-friendly and the commentary helps you feel like you have mentor teacher in the room with you while you plan lessons!

Nice and Well Organized Book.
I had this book for about two semesters, in college by the way. The first semester I dropped it and finally the second semester I got a B. Interesting hm? Anyhow, the book contains a large amount of information including very nice diagrams and photographs and has vastly improved in my opinion from the early first few editions. What makes this book extremely informative is the fact that it is pretty well organized and set up including indexing and clear contents listing. 16 chapters starting slowly from the basics of the human body, its relations to chemistry, cells and tissues, and finally going more in depth by digging deep into the organ systems and the human anatomy.
Tolerable
This book has some useful diagrams and illustrations.It's easy to read, but seems a bit too simplified at times.Also, I think the editors were a bit lax on the writing, personally.The CD quizes are helpful for review.

Informative and highly understandable textbook

The American Accent Guide, 2nd ed.
As a non-native English speaker, I found that the AAG, 2nd edition is a great tool in learning pronunciation and intonation. I try to study and practice one cd a day. Although there are 8 cd's, I wish that the exercises in the grey pages were sounded out.

Was not so good as it appears...
This is a good book, but considering its price, I wouldn't buy it again.

My writing and vocabulary skills are quite developed, however, native speakers can sense the trace of an accent when I speak.

Great ideas for assessing writing
I really enjoyed reading this book and I am excited about starting to use this method when school starts again. Teaching writing can be difficult, but how to give constructive feedback is even harder. I am optimistic that the ideas in this book will make it a whole lot easier to help my children.

invaluable
I looked at many writing books for my child. A school teacher recommended this one to me. After we used it as the primary writing guide, my child's writing took off. It's so effective that his writing has jumped from average to outstanding in his class. Now the book is one of our two MUST-DOs every week (the other is Beestar online ELA and vocabulary exercises, a wonderful web site www.beestar.org). Writing is a life-long skill. We will continue use this guide to improve writing for a long time.
