1-0 out of 5 stars Ludicrous
I didn't read the passage that the other reviewer did, who stated:"Did you know that if you start a business from your home, everything you currently own and use for the corporation (tables, computers, chairs, etc.) can be considered a donation to the corporation, resulting in a write off on your individual tax return? You can even write off your rent if you operate from there!"But assuming his citation of the book is accurate the book is flat wrong.A contribution by a shareholder to a corporation in a 26 USC 351 transaction is NOT A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION and IS NOT DEDUCTIBLE by the contributing shareholder. Moreover, one cannot contribute assets to a corporation in exchange for stock, and then cause the corporation to make a 26 USC 179 election with respect to the contributed assets.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference Book for Small/Home Based Business Owners
It is rare to find a great tax book like this - easy to read, understand and implement, with all authorities referenced. The information in this book is literally worth a ton if taken to heart and implemented - especially for small and home based business owners. A dollar saved by reducing taxes is worth much more of income generated. Pay the price of learning and implementing the concepts laid out in this book - I am confident you will be glad you did. Highly Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diane Kennedy's the Bomb!
I heard her speak at a recent eBay convention & she's a great speaker with great ideas. The book is a must-read for anyone contemplating selling on eBay.She is a professional with good, sound advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, lots of good tips!
Very useful for online sellers and anyone getting some kind of income from casual ebay sales or any other comparable site. Lots of money saving tax tips.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5+++++ stars!!!!
Even if you don't have an Ebay business, this book is so informative for those of us who just don't understand the behind-the-business scene. My husband and I have had a business for years and FINALLY, I now understand what the heck an "S" corporation is and why we have one, as opposed to the "c" corp that we used to have. I HIGHLY recommend this book to ANYONE starting a small business, whether its Ebay or not. Thanks to the authors for putting it in plain English. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Learned alot
I think that it is a good book for people who are just getting into real estate investing. It gives you information on many creative things that can be done.I learned alot and plan to use some of the suggestions and tools soon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Plug for other products - all fluff
The authors of this book touch on many subjects, giving very little detail in any of them. The legal and accounting loopholes are very basic - and they keep referring you to other products and sites they've written/published - making this book one big commercial. In one area, when talking about the benefits of real estate investment, the fail to even mention costs associated with using equity, cash flow, repairs, etc.I am a new entrant to real estate investing, and would not recommend this book to anyone. It is no different than the get rich quick schemes you see on tv/internet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for starters so you can talk the talk with your lawyer
The concepts in the RichDad series book Rich Dad, Poor Dad are basic concepts. It was a book to introduce the reader that working hard your whole life is not the way to create real wealth. In Real Estate Loopholes, the concepts for investing in real estate are pretty much the same amount of detail as in RDPD.It's a short read intended to give the reader some surface level knowledge of real estate tax advantage and legal issues to avoid by setting up LPs and LLPs.By reading this book, I'm able to ask more intelligent questions for my real estate attorney.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The tittle is somewhat misleading

5-0 out of 5 stars Retire Secure-Solid Advice For All
Reading "Retire Secure" will not alone make you rich. However, if you read and follow Mr. Lange's advice, you will build wealth and then protect it to the fullest extent possible. The book outlines a very clear path to maximize savings using the most effective vehicle available to you. Then it goes on to provide a thorough roadmap to minimizing your tax consequences and maximizing your after tax returns. Finally the book provides several different strategies for passing along wealth to your heirs while once again factoring in the greedy hands of Uncle Sam. The author not only provides you with the theory, as many financial planners do, but backs up his recommendations with solid proofs and confirms them with amusing case studies. Overall this book is an excellent source for information on the use of retirement funds for wealth building and hopefully inheritance to pass on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for Advisors and Investors
James Lange's Retire Secure, offers great techniques to help persons planning for retirement. He is on the right track - to postpone and minimize the impact of taxes - in order to maximize the retiree's money and extend the spendable income. This book makes a valuable contribution to the field of personal finance - for both the consumers and the professional advisors who serve them.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Roadmap
I find James Lange's book to be excellant. When we want to go someplace we're not familiar with, who uses MapQuest? Why? It gives us the starting point and the ending point. This book gives so much valuable information. I'll be retiring in 10 to 11 years, so my interest is quite serious. I stumbled accross Mr. Lange's website and find that to also be a fine source of information. As a 'boomer' I'm amazed at what the internet has done for our culture i.e. sharing of information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Information Packed Book! Lots of Great Tips
I thought this book was excellent! I learned quite a lot from reading it and hope to really apply what I have learned to my finances. It was jam packed with helpful tips and ideas on how to take full advantage of tax loopholes. I would recommend this to any small business owner!!

1-0 out of 5 stars simplistic
Not very well written. Its is simplistic & somewhat condescending.
2-0 out of 5 stars Read it and weep
This book makes a lot of assumptions. It assumes that the reader is EXTREMELY well versed in corporate tax advantages. It assumes that the reader already owns a corporation. It assumes that the book will be read with a dictionary of financial terms close at hand.(It should be.The book is poorly written, with key terms lacking adequate defenition.)I support the Rich Dad series. It is a great way for a beginner to get their feet wet. This book assumes that the reader can already swim!Even the seasoned incorporator would probably not be pleased with this book.Tell you what, if you are considering buying this book, save yourself some money and just send me ten bucks.I'll then call you (on my own dime) and summarize the book for you.Oh, what the heck, I'll do it now, for free...surround yourself with a competent team of advisors. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars
very good book that addresses contemporary tax issues (i.e. savings vehicles, organizational format, tax arbitrage, international, M&A, etc.) by consistently using a few concise, clear frameworks (all parties, all taxes, all costs AND 1 pocket 2 another, 1 time to another, 1 type to another.
5-0 out of 5 stars Solid treatment of material
We used this book as the text for a masters level course in our masters of accouting program. Students responded well and appeared to enjoy the book. They found the treatment of the material to be at an apporpriate level, and they rated the book a five on a five point anonymous rating. The only suggestion they proferred was for some companion piece covering a few of the more currently used planning techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Text For a Complex Subject
As another reviewer states, the material for this book was used in the Taxes & Business Strategy class at both the University of Chicago and Stanford's business schools. Compared to other texts on this subject, it is actually readable and, more importantly, understandable to a non-tax professional. The are an abundance of examples that you can apply directly to situations which arise in real world situations. The 2nd edition has been updated to reflect most recent changes in the tax law.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jeff is my FAVORITE tax planner!
I started getting and reading his books in 2003 (see my Listmania), and have begun visiting his MSN message boards and article indexes.I now have a brand new tax issue, and am looking to the 2006 and 2007 books for guidance in how to handle/shelter a coming $10k raise.
4-0 out of 5 stars You have to be serious about it.
I've been reading this author's columns on the web for some time. You can not read this book and look at it as a "self-help" tool. It's not that at all.You must be at least semi-business minded to execute these types of tactics and strategy or you will fall on your face. For me, a well read business person (at least I think so) this book can be summarized like this:It's a Cliffs Notes version of the Tax Code, written for the savvy tax payer. He takes the aspects of the tax code that pertain to a lot of people and breaks it down. There are times when a law degree would be helpful to read this. But, if you read it carefully, you'll do better than you had, were you not to read it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent information on Trust and IRAs
Ed does a great job on giving you detailed information of how to stretch your IRA assets for the next generation. He also does a great job of including information on how to write your trust so that you can control your assets beyond the grave. This is mainly important for clients who have lots of assets in their IRAs or for people who just pass away before they use their IRA assets.Since you don't know when you are going to pass away, I think it is important to get your trust and your IRA beneficiaries set up as soon as possible.
2-0 out of 5 stars Little added
Ed Slott repeated alot of what was included in "The Retirement Savings Time Bomb...", so I was not as impressed with this book. You can get 98% of what to do in the "Time Bomb".But if you really want to save all your money to your kids and their kids, it should help you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Parlay Your IRA into a family fortune
Very good information. Is vital information that would be very useful to anyone with a large IRA and a significant number of beneficiaries.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of a large number of topics
This book covers a lot of ground. As other reviews have pointed out, one consequence of this is that there is not very much detail on the implementation of most strategies. If you decide that you are interested in implementing a particular specific strategy you will likely need to look elsewhere for full details about that strategy.
1-0 out of 5 stars A sales pitch that lacks any in-depth info.
The book is poorly written and largely a superficial analysis of the issues. It was not until after the first 150 pages that I first learned something. This is clearly writen as a marketing piece for the authors. And, when you do go to the website where various additional promised information is supposed to be, it is not there.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy and A Must Read
I am a 49 year old executive and have been doing retirement planning in earnest for at least a decade.I have read many books on retirement, wealth, and other personal financial topics. Most of those have either been overly general, too mathematical, or have been far too narrow in scope. This book is written in clear, concise language and is a treasure of knowledge...including the pitfalls in our tax and legal system and how to avoid those pitfalls. There are great ideas in here and some eye-opening revelations for those unfamiliar with some estate and tax issues.I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking to structure their will, trusts, and overall personal financial structure so that after-tax and after-death returns are maximized for you and your loved ones. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just What the Doctor Ordered
This is an excellent book.It answered all of my questions about handling my estate, and it answered many questions that never occurred to me.The writing is straightforward and easily understood. The title is THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION GUIDE TO WILLS AND TRUSTS, but it covers a good deal more:steps to help your family now; estate plans; avoiding or reducing estate taxes; transferring property without a will; securing long-term care help; and many other topics relating to managing your estate and passing it on to your heirs. This is a very useful book.

1-0 out of 5 stars The American Bar Association wants you confused.
Don't be a sucker. The ABA is not going to help you understand the probate or non-probate system.I have been a lawyer for over twenrty years, and I can't understand what they are trying to say. They want you to give up rather than understand the tools of estate planning.I am the author of "Everything A Baby Boomer Should Know -- An Insider's Guide To Estate Planning."Compare it to the contents of this ABA book. The difference is that the ABA book is nothing more than another textbook that speaks over your head.Read my book and truly understand how the system works for you.I promise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and to the point
This book answered all my tax and property questions quickly and precisely. It was well written and perfect for someone who is not a CPA or property specialist. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best real estate tax book. Period.
I have read a number of books about real estate tax planning, and this is by far the best.It is clear, to the point, and very readable. The author goes through the basics of how a capital gains basis is calculated, rules about stepping up basis, primary residence exclusion rules, etc.He then discusses various ways of deferring or eliminating capital gain consequences via 1031, installment sales, private annuity trusts, charitable remainder trusts and Roth IRAs.The chapter on private annuity trusts is one of the least known, yet most valuable strategies that exists.Buy this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Advice that could get you in trouble...
Famous authors of several other books like this one, for example Jerome Schneider, have already been * convicted * of tax fraud and have handed over their entire client lists to the US Government.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't read at your peril
If you are looking for a "feel good" book that only gives you the sugar frosting about offshore without warning you about the many pitfalls, then this book isn't for you.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book for newbies
This is a good book for teaching newbies the basics of how to go offshore, open bank accounts, and (perhaps most importantly) avoid offshore scams.

4-0 out of 5 stars Full of Useful Information But Needs an Editor
This book is full of useful information and strategies for active traders and investors. However, it is poorly written. The author repeats himself often, while omitting important information that I guess he assumes the reader knows (for example that the mark to market election can only be changed once chosen with the specific consent of the IRS). Sections and subheadings are poorly organized. Often the author writes something like: "we recommend X for the following reasons" and no reasons follow. The book desperately needs editing. If you are prepared to put up with this and have a good understanding of the basics of the tax code as they apply to investing already then this book is very worthwhile reading. I am just starting Ted Tesser's book on taxes for traders. It is a MUCH better read. I have yet to see if it is as useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you wanted (and need) to know...
If you are an active trader, this book MUST find its way into your hands. It covers every issue necessary to help you in filing your taxes with trader status. If you can file as a trader, a whole new world of business expense deductions will be open to you. I found that this book answered every question I had, along with some I hadn't even thought of yet.
4-0 out of 5 stars Read it before visiting your CPA
The book discusses issues that should be considered before filing as a trader. It also discusses factors that traders should consider before electing mark-to-market accounting. The guidance here is consistent with what I've read and heard from other credible sources.

4-0 out of 5 stars A review for the Nevada Corporation Handbook
This is a great book!It not only teaches you the benefits of incorporating in NV, it also provides detailed info on different kinds of companies and tax saving strategies.
5-0 out of 5 stars why pick Nevada
How I wish, I found this book first!I could have saved myself a lot of time and money.5-0 out of 5 stars Completely professional
A book on a subject like this is a situation where you'd really rather look over the various books in a bookstore rather than buy online. But after looking over all the books I could find online, I decided to buy thisone. I am very pleased with it, with one quibble: the price. The content isgood, the book is nicely printed and bound, but even so ... ouch! $65.95?!At any rate, the reasons I bit the bullet and bought it are: (1) I got thefeeling that a lot of books on this subject are shill come-ons for Nevada"incorporation advisors"--I did searches on the net for some ofthe titles, and they came up on pages of such outfits, obviously written bythe people behind the businesses, who tend not to have any formal legaltraining; the Rowley book is not a shill job at all. (2) Rowley has put agood chunk of his book online where you can read it for free; I'd put theURL here, but Amazon would delete it; nevertheless, if you search for itand read the content, it gives you a good preview of the book (although thejuicy stuff, like the sample articles of incorporation are not online). (3)About a third of the book consists of reference material like the NevadaRevised Statutes, which are available online at the Secretary of State'ssite (where you can search for words in your browser), but it's nice tohave a printed copy. With this book and a resident agent (look online atthe Secretary of State's site for a complete list), you can do theincorporation yourself. ... Read more
