A great book
I have been an auditor for the last seven years and I can assure you that Prof. Arens book is excellent. Even if you have a working experience with audits you will find that this book is not the usual "text book"

Very good textbook
No textbook is really worth 5 stars, in my estimation, because that is reserved for books that actually entertain me!Textbooks seldom do that.However, this auditing text is pretty darn good.

Sawyer's Internal Auditing
This book is very useful for people working in internal audit field.

Stay away.You'll get more from a "Hardy Boys" book.
One of the worst text books I have ever had to suffer through.The verbage seems to come from some one who would rather be writing bad novels and doesn't want anybody to really understand what's being said.Furthermore, the review questions at the end of each chapter, in many cases, had nothing to do with the chapter they follow or even any information in the book itself on occasion.The remaining questions are written so vaguely you have to spend twice as long searching back through the text as it took to read it in the first place just to find something that resembles what the question is asking.It took me four days to read three chapters and finish the review questions at the end of two and I have no idea if I learned anything because the answer key is no where to be found.I can say this though, it may be vague and useless for a new learner, but at least it's longwinded and tiresome.

Disappointing update to a classic book
I am currently using this book to teach a college-level class in internal auditing. I initially chose it over Brink's Modern Internal Auditing (which I thought was very good but which was written at a rather high reading level) because 1) it was newer and less expensive for my students; 2) it purported to cover Sarbanes-Oxley; and 3) the previous edition was very good and I expected the same or better from the new edition.

Excellent guide for any Controller
ANy Controller will benefit from this well written, very comprehensive guide.

Not worth that much !
I am disappointed about this book. The book is basically written for students who know little about the business/accounting functions. I found the contents are not deep enough, at least not for veterans oraccountants.Therefore, if you want a thorough knowledge of thecontrollership, this is not the one you should read. Try others.

The Best Auditing Book Available
During the 16 years that I have taught Financial Auditing at the university level I have been constantly on the lookout for the best available book. I chose Whittington & Pany because (1) it is succinct, (2) it presents auditing concepts clearly (although the authors do sugar coat the accounting scandals of the past 20 years and fail to give credit where credit is due by naming the firms involved in them), (3) the page layout is attractive and easy to read, and most importantly (4) my students preferred it over other texts (one student told me that she chose my class after looking through the assigned texts for all of the Auditing sections, an excellent idea).
Whittington and Pany ROCK!!!!!
Let me tell ya! What do you get when you combine Whittington, Pany, and Auditing? It's just a boatload of accounting fun!!!These guys know how to put together a book on auditing. This thing is a real page turner. Damn! Attestation really rocks but Assurance Services will just blow your mind. Even if your're not an accountant, this is a great read.I understand the 13th edition is already a red hot item, so grab a copy today before they're all sold out.This is the one book you'll definitely want to have with you if you're traveling and you have room in your back pack for just one book.Read it, then read it again and again. Precise Methods for Gathering Process Data
I'm an educator in a midwest insurance company so I related easily to the author's examples which are based on Farmer's Insurance.It is easy to recognize the author's auditing background because their methods are precise and complete.I will use their written experience to conduct classes of my own.I have two observations from the book: 1. Entity types are identified as Process, Unit, Task, and Action.These correspond to Process, Subprocess, Activity, and Step which are somewhat better known; 2. The examples and case study of insurance applications will appeal to those in an identical or similar industry.

We, Optimal CAE, Inc., have used this process for the last few years and it works GREAT!Ignore the previous feedback!The interview approach, if done correctly, allows you a behind the scenes look at what is really happening.Currently, we process map ALL of the Ford Motor Company assembly and stamping plants and this method has helped us identify disconnects even in organizations of this size. This Is the Textbook version of Corprate Fraud
This book is excellent and very readable.It is the textbook version of Corporate Fraud Handbook: Prevention and Detection by the same author which costs less.So unless you are using this in class or teach from it get the Corporate Fraud Handbook...it costs less.Either way you won't be sorry for having the book.It is worth it. ... Research book with enormous coverage
Scope of this book is enormous. It is like an encyclopedia - which is why I got the PDF version; cannot imagine carrying it around. It is not like a college book on Internal Audit, where for example, they take you through the business cycles (e.g., revenue cycle), but that be gotten elsewhere. The coverage is excellent on both the Financial and IT side for SOX - and for internal audit departments not following SOX.
